These short files are random selections from a 9min composite audio file i put together from an accidental recording made when i left my sony camcorder on in my studio. They are part of the same series posted elsewhere on thefreesoundproject site titled "accidental recordist". There is some hiss/background noise which is part of the street front urban scene of my studio. There are two chimes - one low pitch constructed of four aluminium tubes and wooden clapper (gift) and the high pitch one of small stainless steel discs (purchased in maui from craft shop). I did some basic cleanup of low level background noise and applied plus one level of loudness using adobe soundbooth cs3 to get some clarity.

After hours of searching for the sound of a guitar hitting the ground, i resolved to just recording a quick piece. This is a small sized guitar hitting the ground a couple times on a carpeted floor (recorded in logic pro).

Banging away on an old toy piano in my grandmother's attic that is in a dire state of disrepair. I am uploading another recording where i attempted to get full, useful samples of each key. . Many of them are stuck together and/or broken. Recorder: sony pcm-d50.

Hand pan instrument recording, playing a basic melody.

For that cartoon twang sound.

This is a single guitar string plucked with a pick directly at the headstock, that means between the tuners and the nut. There the string is very short and tight, resulting in a high, almost piano-like tone. Also, since there is no sound box, the tone is rather quiet. I used this for a sampler and i liked the sound of it. This is the raw recording. If you want to use it in a sampler too, i recommend adding some eq, reverb and maybe some delay. It is not perfectly in tune though, the closest note is a#. You might tweak the tuning a little bit when using it in combination with other tuned instruments. This is a mono recording of a psaltery. This was recorded as-found with no tuning or cleaning done to the instrument. It is a series of single tones followed by two note chords. Dissonant and full of texture. It was recorded using an audio-technica at875r microphone at 48khz/24bit.
