A recording done in mid-summer 2011 done in deep woods. Many different birds calling out, insects singing, and an overall background of the song of crickets rising & falling.

The peaceful natural recording was made in early march of 2012 in woods bordering a lake. Even though it was late-winter/early spring and was cold -- about 38 degrees -- it was not totally still. These tufted titmice and song sparrows were actively singing as if to say "hey, winter's almost gone, get ready for spring. Shed door opens, then closed. First with a metallic click to unlock and followed by a long opening creaking door. Once opened there is a plastic rustle and the door closes with an even longer spooky creaking noise. Followed by a clunk when shut and a metallic click to lock the shed door. Silence back and front.

Once july hits in the midwest and the temperature and humidity climbs, the insects take over the sound symphony. This mesmerizing sound was recorded on friday july 17th, 2015 at ferne clyffe state park in johnson county illinois. I recorded this using a marantz pmd661 and rode ntg-2 shotgun microphone. .

A recording i made in may of 2013 as i was trying to get a good recording of the wonderful wood thrush recorded. You can still faintly hear the wood thrush in the background, but the nice surprise on this recording is the very clear, bubbling, trilling call of a proud little chipping sparrow. This recording was carefully made using my homemade parabolic reflector microphone. (*using my trusty rode ntg-2), and going into my handy zoom h4n recorder. I wanted to get as accurate a recording as possible so i bumped up the bit rate to 96 kpbs. I know it makes for a larger file, but i think it is worth it.

This is a recording of the six o'clock cicada taken near to the danum valley rain forest lodge in the primary rain forest of borneo. The 6 o'clock cicada is the loud horn type of sound that can be heard in the fist few seconds of the file. Later in the file other insects come in one sounding more like a car alarm.
