A workshop in which we are introduced to some tools and methodologies of sound art from the practice of field recording. The sounds have been recorded with portable recorders, some of them using special microphones such as contact mics and electromagnetic coils; the soundtrack has been edited in audacity.

A reproduction of the opening electric guitar riff from marius constant's twilight zone theme (used in season 2 and later). I obtained some info about this arrangement from reading bill wrobel's film score rundown website, which has a detailed description of both the bernard herrmann and marius constant twilight zone themes. I played this into logic pro using the "classic clean" guitar sound. One guitar is playing bb bb bb bb and the other guitar is playing g# a g# e (repeated).

This is the final piece for our final project of sound creation laboratory. We have made changes in several ways: erasing redundant information (such as spoken words), filtered a section of the piece in order to make a sense of outside the club or inside the club. We also introduced an echo effect to make the effect of a drunk state. Furthermore, a bed sound has been placed at the final of the piece. This is a good improvement related with the final impression the piece gives to the audience. It's a recreation of tired atmosphere and also of the desire of sleeping.

This was hella tough to make! and i used this program that turns picture into sound. It has paint tools, and you start with a black canvas, you draw up a pattern on it, and depending on the color, position, size, quality, format and translucency of the marks and lines you placed, you get sounds. But it is really hard to get a hang of! this took me 3 days to get it right! please comment and rate, i worked really hard on this! by the way, i'll be making more of these, so if you like it, then i have three more.

I used cheap mallet sticks made of rubber to play on a ride cymbal. Not really a good tremolo or whatever you call it, but it has its moments!recorded with a tascam dr 100. A pluck on a jew's harp. Recorded late at night in my bedroom on a samsung mp3 player. I enhanced it to the best of my abilities in audacity since the original recording had a low bitrate (64kbps mp3), the volume was low and it had a lot of static noise. Unfortunately the recording have a lot less warmth to it than the instrument has in reality. I am not sure of the tone of the harp but i believe it is a c, if it is not please let me know. 1 of 15.

Field recording of a train ride in the western outskirts of paris. I wanted to capture what passengers actually hear when they take that train. It's a bombardier regional train with diesel engine. This is simportant because it gives this particular train a distinctive acoustical fingerprint: you can hear engine bursts (a bit like a bus hitting the gas) no electrical train does that. . . It also has a nice roaring drone. Recorded with a zoom h2n in stereo x/y mode.

This is a 808 bass which i sampled from my novation drum station. The sample covers one full octave from c#0-c1. The sound was recorded through a yamaha m1516 which pretty much has the same circuit as a api. As you can hear it sounds pretty much the same as a roland 808. The drum station uses analog modeling so the sound is pretty nice. Feel free to use in your productions. There is no need to contact me if you release a track with this sample just enjoy.

909 kick with massive distortion and eqíng. Used the eks-9 vst plugin to emulate a 909 kick drum. Placed a huge load of different distortion plugins on different spores, to create a heavy distorted sound. In between those distortion plugins i used several eq's to manipulate the sound. I recorded this sound with the microphone from the logitech quickcam for notebooks pro. I know, the webcam is really old but i happened to find it from my brothers room and used it for a microphone replacement. You may say it distorts a lot, but that's just because the original setting of level is 50+ db. Now onto the topic. I spinned the usb cord around the end, and tried to do it fast enough to create this sound. This is a modified sound from its original. Spectral editing in audacity has been done.

This one has a very vocal blackbird finishing off the evening (8pm). All recorded whilst staying in a converted barn in rhos, wales. Recorded on my zoom h4n, there maybe some wind noise in places and maybe a very high flying jet, but mostly it is just the sound of nature. There is a nearby stream in the background too. The sound is of an lg french-door refrigerator that just had the compressor replaced but had too much freon loaded. The tubing dedicated to the freezer section accumulated frost which internal fan blades were rubbing against. Later, a savvy technician released some measure of freon and the sound went away. So the sound is now only a memory. No effects or alteration has been applied. The sound was recorded using 'voice record pro' by dayana networks ltd using an iphone 11, ios 15. 6.

So i've made a skit 10 or so years ago. It was for a story i had designed called "axe troopers" 3 kids with an axe trained to be assassins. Literally do not have anytime now to study animation have to raise my daughter. But this lovely piece has been sitting on my hard drive. . . . Around 11:15 is when they finish. The conversations they were having before they started to get, and after they finished having, had some parts cut out.

Quindar sounds were used by nasa for controlling the ground station transmitters that allowed communication with spaceships through the space shuttle era. Fiber optic cable has made quindar sounds obsolete. This sound, at 2525 hz, was generated when the capsule communicator pressed the ptt button on his microphone, and the pitch told the ground station transmitters to start broadcasting. An almost similar snare sound to that of idioteque in radiohead's 2000 album kid a. Though it is meant for experimental style, i think it would work with any form of electronic music. It was created by resonating noise from audacity, filtering it, fading it out, stretching it and compressing it. It has a characteristic sustain to it. Space tourists watching rings of saturn. Thanks to satellites that have been close to saturn, we now have pictures that show clearly how beautiful the rings are. It is so beautiful that in a few years surely space tourists will go there. In this song i describe the atmosphere there is at that moment. They look at the combination of complexity and simplicity of the rings. Everyone will be very impressed with all the colors that are caused by the refraction of sunlight by the ice present. There are the impressive moons of saturn. The one with more mysteries than the other. At that time maybe life has been found on or in those moons.

At cmu, there is a building with a really long hallway that has amazing acoustics. In this experiment, i set up a feedback loop. On one end of the hallway, there is a microphone connected to a laptop. On the other end, there is a speaker connected to another laptop. The two laptops are connected via skype calling. I play with my speaker's built in eq, and play my violin to stimulate the resonant frequencies of the hall. A better set up would be to use better equipment directly connected to each other, and have a stand-alone eq to independently control what resonant frequencies are playing.

Made for the ice-breaker collab. Simple mournful loop with deep kick, flute and strings. Tempo=90 bpm. An arpegiated supersaw over drone effect (wollo drone) repeats 3 times. First iteration includes a melody played as a flute. Second iteration of the loop has the flute replaced with a full string section. Third time around, it's just the arp and drone. All three versions of the loop have a deep, reverberating and mellow kickdrum. Sounds tribal(-ish). Created in flstudio 11. 04 with virtual instruments and vst eq + reverb.

Processed kick with good transientmade with ableton and been tested with monitors, its been eq'd and a compressed. This sound it at -0. 1db instead of 0. 0 so it's definitely not clipping. The sub of the kick is made in ni massive and then processed with all most every plugin i have. I took surprisingly long to make because it was originally meant to be secret for one of my own tracks but i never really used it so it has a lot of hidden detail that is just waiting to be downloaded lol.

January 30, 2014. A major ice storm moves in to the east coast of the united states. Sitting in a small cabin in the woods of north carolina, the sound of ice particles (sleet) hitting a stove-pipe can be heard. It's cold. It's bleak. The power has just cut off. Sitting on the floor with a zoom h4n, i recorded the soundscape. Enjoy!. - christopher c. Courter.

It's recording of a passenger train's on duty. You can hear the train's motors, the wheels rumbling against the rails, the wagon connectors hitting each other, when the train stops also people chatting. Near the end of the recording the room acoustics change, because a woman entered the area between wagons where i was standing with my recorded pointed down. I was standing in a narrow passage, where two wagons were joined, between two closed slide-doors. She have opened those so the overall sound has radically changed and i decided to end the recording. Through the entire recording the unit is moving forward, decelerating, stopping, staring and accelerating again repeatedly as it travels stopping at several stations. The recording was done with a hand-held zoom h2. Rear mics used pointed to the ground. I was in the loudest area in the whole train. I was using "low" gain (h2 has three mic gain levels to choose from: l/m/h). Viewed and converted to flac using audacity, the file hasn't been altered in any other way.
