A strong thunder storm passes over the island of bermuda in the atlantic ocean at 4:00am. Ten thunderbolts of varying intensity can be heard against a backdrop of falling rain and singing treefrogs. Sounds recorded on a summer night, in 2005, west of redmond oregon (see geotag). Made with a jvc digital camcorder, it got some interesting sounds of frogs, coyotes howling in the distance and the reaction of a very nervous jackass. The audio quality isn't all that great but, it's not like i was able to recreate the same ambience again, on cue. . .

A recording of the upper pond in jones park, brunswick east made in january of 2023 on a pleasant summer's night around 10pm. I came for the wildlife, but also captured the sounds of city. Along with frogs, bats and insects you can hear music, a dog, a bicycle, traffic, and people. The conversation might not be suitable for children. The recording was made with the inbuilt stereo microphones of a zoom h5.

Short field recordings made with my iphone in august 2013 while visiting family on one of the many small residential islands located in beaufort, south carolina (of forrest gump, the prince of tides, the big chill, and the great santini fame for any movie buffs out there). The loud buzzing is the ear-piercing mating call of the cicada insect, a sound that's hard to escape in the sultry summer months and semi-tropical environment of the south carolina low country. You can also hear tree frogs and i think maybe some birds too. Unfortunately there's also a little ambient whine of an air conditioner at times and me tip-toeing quietly around on the crunchy gravel dirt road. . . Because i didn't realize my iphone would do such a good job of picking up the sound of my footsteps. :).
