This is the sound of the brood x cicadas. Close up, the cicadas have a sharper chitinous rattle. But more often the experience was a diffuse drone which was audible throughout washington, dc in may and june 2021. This recording was taken in fort slocum park, june 3, 2021. A lone cricket appeared in my room, so i decided to record it before letting it out. Small chirping for about a minute. There is a light amount of background noise, since i decided not to do noise reduction myself and just leave it raw, since i didn't want to distort the cricket sound.

I made this with iampagan's slimy_flesh cc0 sound as i needed something to draw attention to a centipede i had appearing in my animation and couldn't find anything else that would suit it. It's not the best sound ever (i'm a newbie), but maybe somebody else might have use for it. So 'ere ya go!.

That being the case, i am privileged, and i hereby share my good fortune with this community in the form of a recording of that hallowed insect's chirping. However, i do not find its call as soothing as some might, and if it continues to bruise the air with its incessant racket, i may be moved to seek it out and destroy it! so. . . Perhaps. . . In memoriam. . .
