Recorded at the denver colorado botanic gardens at approximately 8:50pm 2017-08-16, temperature approximately 23'c. I followed the sound of the insects in the gardens to a tree-filled spot and stood stationary to create the binaural recording. Distressed cicada on the ground clicking or trilling very fast and loudly. The insect had dried and flown, apparently, but for some reason landed in the wrong area in the late afternoon on a very hot day.

A soundscape of an august summer field bordered by thick woods. Note the cool sound of a bee buzz fly-by at 5 seconds into the recording. Recording made with: (1) marantz pmd661 modified by oade electronics. (2) samson co2 matching stereo microphones placed on a microphone stand about3 feet above the ground. (3) record volume set on 7.

This sound was recorded via the use of a behringer b2 microphone, fostex fr2 and a home made parabolic reflector made from a tv satellite dish. The source of the sound was between 100m-200m away from the microphone. This has been eq'ed with high-end shelving to reduce gain noise, low-end shelved up to 1khz (to reduce wind and background noise) and the overall gain has been increased. Sound of several flies species (diptera) crickets(ortoptera) and a lot of undefined crackles blops and clicks result of the frenetic activity of various types of grubs and worms into the rotting organic matter. Perfect for corpse soundtracks.

Insects (i think mostly crickets) make this noise. It sounds so. . . Infernal!, or futuristic (electronic for sure). I recorded this (with my old zoom ii recorder) one summer night in tlacotlapan, at the southern mexican state of veracruz. All this happened for hours inside my hotel room. So you can imagine what kind of night i have. Wonderful memories.

A processed audio of tropical cicadas during the evening (6 pm). A few background noises slipped and were unable to be removed during audio processing stage (around 2. 3 khz and bellow were removed). These tropical cicadas are active during the evening. These cicadas are able to produce calls above 2. 5 khz. This audio was recorded around 25-50m from the source.

This is a field recording of a late night ambience in a suburban area in india. A variety of insects, predominantly crickets can be heard along with distant dogs and traffic. This high resolution clip has been cleaned to eliminate lf hum and other intermittent loud noises.
