Following the latest ‘dare the community’ i’ve finally hooked up my dirt cheap rtl software radio dongle to the formerly disused ‘masthead amplifier’ on our roof. Here are some english truckers(?) chatting over cb radio. They seem to be talking about one of their mates growing a beard and suggesting they ‘give him a quran’.

Mixed scots pine & larch plantation with beech trees adjacent to trackway. Dry with light breeze. The murmur of the wind in the pines runs through out this recording - ebbing and flowing with the breeze. There is much woodland birdsong. Some other noises of human making can also be hear and interrupt the otherwise peaceful rural ambience. Strange noise that emanated from a barn that was being built on the somerset/wiltshire border. Possibly created by the machine laying the flooring. Also wind, some distant traffic, birdsong.

Here's a recording i did from the third floor balcony of my hotel room in the hyde park area of london. It was a noisy spot, but very atmospheric and ideal for recording street sounds, especially in stereo. Recorded on a tascam dr-40.

Soldier's from the royal electrical and mechanical engineers (reme) training on hankley common in surrey, england. Spoken voices are from the instructor and a group of elderly orienteering runners who blundered into the middle of the battle. Weapons mostly 5. 56mm sa80 rifles and 7. 62 gpmg. Note the crescendo of firing as the assault goes in.
