After spending a weekend putting together a giant wardrobe (from everyones favourite swedish furniture store) for my girlfriend i thought i should reward myself by making some recordings of it. This is a close mic recording of the sliding door, i followed the top of the door (where there was the most interesting sound) the full length of the wardrobe as i opened/closed the door. For this recording i used my sennheiser mkh416 going into a sound devices mp-1 preamp and recorded to a tascam dr-680.

Two muted elevator floor bells and doors slide open. Wide ambiance. The weirdness at the beginning is the natural beginning provided when recording with an ipod. Griffin italk mic.

This is an sfx that we created for our chess game. It indicates a chess piece sliding on a board.

Various momevents with my hand using small rocks and dirt. Brushing, grabbing, and dropping. Recording in the city is hard but i found a small canyon made of rocks in a park which helped block out traffic noise. Equipment: rode ntg3, zoom h5, izoptope rx4. Heavy cinder block being dragged across asphalt a couple of times. I tried only sliding it over the ground when the bird was quiet, so you should be able to cut some sounds out and use. Otherwise i have single darker cinder block sounds in my profile.

This is two slabs of concrete , one on top of the other, and scraped together. In this sample i have changed the rate to give it a 'bigger slab' effect. You can also add reverb and play with the rate yourself for more dramatic effect.
