This audio was recorded from my balcony in downtown denton, texas near the university of north texas at 6:30am in the morning, just after the sun had risen. All sorts of birds can be heard in the nearby trees. A car drives by in the distance, splashing through a puddle, and at the close of the recording, i walk inside, shut the door, and turn off the sony icd-ux512 voice recorder.

These recordings were made at the annual "tag der sachsen" (saxony fair) in freiberg. Recordings were done on the main market square (obermarkt), where a local radio station had set up a large stage for concerts and other events. Recording was done with a zoom h2, mics at 90° dispersion. This is the early morning after the event, at about 7. 30, stage hands are taking down the rigging, workers are clearing away trash and loading trucks. During the recording, someone starts working with a leaf blower.

Early morning in the barbacane of neuenburg castle, located above the german town of freyburg on unstrut. Birds are singing, some light traffic and bells ringing from the town can be heard in the distance. These are the rear channels of a 4ch surround recording. Most of this recording is of insects in a special field of native wildflowers at a dog-park on south mountain reservation in new jersey. Near the beginning of the recording, you can hear, in the distance, a dog at the dog park yelping in pain very loudly, perhaps after receiving a bite from another dog. Walking softly on the snow covered ground in the early morning.

Swiss forest, sunny winter morning, on a small mountain. The cracks and other falls are due to the snow that melt in the sun and fell from the top of the trees. It was beautiful. Recorded in stereo with h5n, and processed a little bit to reduce the wind.

So i recently got a new portable recorder (sony pcm-d100). Early one spring morning, i could hear a woodpecker crystal clear from inside my room, with my noise canceling headphones still snug on my head. So naturally, i did a lil ambient recording. Since it was spring, the rich chorus of birdsongs made it, in my book, a freesound-worthy file. I didn't process this very much, except wrapping it around near the end so it could seamlessly loop back, and eqing it to bring out the birds more and soften the mic-noise. In case you're curious, it's a pileated woodpecker!.
