Afternoon rain, a light rain or drizzle. Recorded with my desktop computer, anhp pavillion with vista and realtek audio. Standard microphone. Since the rain wasnot blowing in the door, i could hangthe mike out the door. Audacity was myplatform, with very little processing. This version was recorded with the default amplitude at o db. There is a little thunder now and then,and birds chirping outside, mostlycatbirds or mockingbirds. At one pointone of my neighbors was outside talking,the conversation is not distinguishable. This recording is just over 37 minutes. Since there was almost no wind or breeze, the rain is easy to hear. Thatis when it falls on the sidewalk.

A recording made in the shawnee national forest in illinois on the very first day of october, 2022. This recording was made at mid-afternoon and features the peaceful, pleasant wind through the deciduous trees. From time to time though, the soft call of a nuthatch or a chickadee reminds us there is still bird life in the early autumn woods. Birds getting ready, getting stocked up for the upcoming northern assaults of cold air this winter. Some crows really start to put on a show towards the end of this stereo recording. Ambient recording of the courtyard in my apartment complex. The are two story brick buildings, next to a main road, border-line highway. The traffic light means that the birds and neighbor's dog start predominant, then are taken over by the rush of traffic as the light changes to green. A sunny day, but clouds are in the distance, as an impending storm is about to roll in. The whining dog seems to share his sentiment about the dark clouds. Recorded with a zoom h6, stereo xy adapter set to 120 degree spread. Set up through a wide open window as to cut down on wind noise.

Pre-dawn recording of the city of warren, mi (detroit's largest suburb) waking up on palm sunday. Recording is from 5:20am to 7:20am. Sunrise was at 7:13am. It was a cold crisp clear sky morning, 29f / -2c, barely any breeze. Pretty much a quiet track of early springtime birds, robins, mourning doves etc. , city hum & distant traffic building up as the city awakes on this beautiful palm sunday 2023. Recorded on a zoom h1n. Had to upload it as a flac, cause it was just over a gig as a wav. File.

I recorded this from a balcony (5th floor) in the middle of a summer day (end of july), using a mid/side set (mkh30 + c480 b-uls/ck62-df omni) into sound devices mixpre3. Not any processing has been added, except a plain m/s to x/y stereo conversion and low-cut filter (30hz). This is a generally quiet atmo, sometimes light wind comes in, some seagulls and other birds are there at times, some construction work happens etc. The traffic noise is present, but in the distant way. Feel free to use it in any of your productions. Not for resale.

Pine cones dropping and landing on a bed of pine needles. This recording was made on a windy day, so there is some background "whooshing" wind; all in all, i think these pine cones softly landing on the needles can be put to good use. Recording made with my zoom h4n recorder, with a rode ntg-2 shotgun microphone. For this recording i literally wanted to get as close as i could, so i placed the shotgun microphone on the ground and carefully let the pine cones fall as close to the microphone as possible, but without hitting it. *not easy to do. It was time to mow the lawn, and it was a beautiful day for mowing. 80 degrees and sunny. Not much breeze at all. For the production: i took the zoom h1 out and set it by the porch about 2 feet up off the ground. Recorded at 96k 24bit. The low cut and agc were disabled. Once recorded, i finished it off with a small amount of airwindows "air" with the 22k tap opened all the way up. For the mower: i used a 21 inch 140 cc "550ex" series briggs & stratton gas walk behind push mower. When i finished mowing my yard, i approached the recorder up to about 2 feet, then i cut the engine. I start it again and let it idle in close proximity for about 8 seconds, still at a distance of about 2 feet, then cut the engine one last time. I'm sure this could potentially come in handy for those outdoor scenes where you could use some distant neighborhood activity or a close-up start/stop. Enjoy!.

This is the first recording in this pack from inside a traditional, working old dutch windmill, called de lelie - the lily - in the picturesque dutch village of eenrum. This mill was used to grind grain. There was a strong northwesterly breeze straight from te sea, so the sails of the windmill were in full swing, this morning on saturday may 14th. The dominant sound you hear is the sound of the so called “schuddebak”, litterally translated as “shaking bin”. This is a device in the form of a large wooden shovel which is tapping against the turning millstone in order to distribute the grain equally along the millstone. On the background you hear the millstone itself. On the second recording in this pack, the millers had detached the schuddebak, so the sound of the millstone is more dominant in that recording. This windmill is now a small museum. Admission is free, so everyone can admire this proud dutch windmill heritage which reclaimed half our country from the sea and gave us our daily bread. Nature, and man-made machines, wake up on a saturday in a small town in southern illinois. Even though getting "away from it all" and experiencing nature in the deep woods, or a quiet field is very enjoyable, let's not forget that nature often lives and thrives side-by-side with us. I recorded this in my back yard on saturday april 27th, 2013 at 6:45 am and you'll hear the low, but everpresent low rumble of a distant train throughout. But, over and above you hear the incredible variety of calls and sounds made by a family of starlings who seem oblivious to the iron horse and the occasional car. We had rain the night before, so every now and then you hear a loud "plop" as a breeze cuts loose fat rain-drop and it hits the foam wind-screen on my h4n. Starting at around 3:47 and running to 4:08 a cardinal makes a strong appearance. I made this recording using my zoom h4n recorder, using it's internal built-in stereo microphones, with the recording gain on 81, out of 100. Enjoy!.

Where we live the fireworks laws are pretty lax so people go crazy with them. Here is a recording from the day before independence day (yesterday) as people were blowing up part of their arsenal ahead of time. In a few hours i will be recording as things get really crazy. Our neighbors on three sides will light off the thousands of dollars of fireworks that they have purchased. Many of them are illegal (purchased from indian reservations) so there will be some big booms. Back to this recording. It is recorded with my "fake head" binaural setup, hanging from a tripod at the crest of the garage roof. There is a tree a few feet away and a light breeze is rustling the leaves. Here is a bit of a timeline:. 0:00 kids across the street light off a few fireworks4:05 the neighbors across the street were having a party, and the guests begin to leave. 6:30 the guest of honor honks and yells "love you" as she drives away. 8:00 the kids across the street go inside. Now all you hear are fireworks in the distance, all over town. 32:17 someone lights what must be a million firecrackers. They continue until 51:20 - 19 minutes!!!.

It is not about a specific dream, or rather while it takes place in one dream it is about many. From time to time in my dreams i am in a city. Not a particular city, like paris or chicago, but the events of the dream happen in a setting which includes tall buildings and crowded streets and views of the sun setting behind a busy skyline. One time, while having such a dream, i was standing on an arcing bridge over a body of water like a river or canal. The late afternoon sun was to my left, and the warmth of the sunlight contrasted with the cool breeze off the water. As i looked across the curving expanse of water, i was mesmerized by the bright reflections of the sun on the water, on the glass of the windows, across this expansive space. I realized with a start that i recognized a cluster of buildings across the way. I had seen them before, in another dream. In that dream i had been a different person. Rather, in most all of my dreams i am in some way myself, but entangled in a moment from some other life, surrounded by characters and pursuing concerns that are alien to my waking being. In that moment, in this dream, i came to understand that all my dreams that happen in a city are happening in the same city, the same geography and architecture holding dozens of episodic lives i may have between sleeping and waking. Since this ambience was recorded during the work-week, there are hardly any man-made internal combustion engine noises. Just the wind lifting and swirling through the tired forest and the blue jays, crows and insects. Recording made at 2:30pm on september 13 2022. A perfect day in a midwest small-town neighborhood for painting a picture of peace, and thoughtful reminiscing in mid october.
