The rather loud trill of cicadas, their song rising and falling. Recorded with no human noise pollution on a swamp road, midmorning in the middle of summer in the american south.

I was doing some recording for this project i'm working on, and the right channel on the zoom h4 i was using bugged out, and this is the result. The only processing done was the removal of the left channel.

This recording was created using the iphone 7 voicememos app. The small dark brown cricket was loose in our home and making a lot of chirping noise at night. It sounds like a miniature car alarm. No attribution necessary. Free for personal or commercial use. The 1 minute file is 546kb enjoy.

My fender guitar amp made some weird sounds the other day, when i switched it on. Quite musically i think:).

A particular insect, maybe a grasshopper doing this sound which i use as background atoms instead of the typical cricket. Recorded stereo on zoom h4 on board mics, i edited it to remove some of the hiss.

Recording of the pond near la macina di san cresci in chianti, italy 7/1/18 23:00. Some slight wind interference. A few bugs flew very close to the mic for interesting sounds that you can edit out if you need something unobtrusive.

This is not the actual sound of a bug being killed. That is a much shorter sound. This is the sound that comes when the bug zapper is first plugged in. It's the startup sound. I use it for my text notification. My wife says that it sounds like a fart.

This sound field recording was made back in 2000 on a very late/early morning. I placed the sony microphone ontop of the car outside to record the crickets and cicadas. There were a lot of mosquitos out that hot night. One of them landed on the mic and actually bit the microphone. You have to listen close but the bug bites at about 14:28 and removes the mosquito blood sucker at about 34:28. This, my dear friend, is ils - infinitely loud silence. Play some other sounds and then play this, and you'll know why i call it this way. It's created by a bug present in lmms, a free program for electronic music production. Actually this sample can't reproduce the ils phenomenon, that creates a dc offset so big, that it outnumbers any other signal getting out of the same audio interface and the result is silence. It's a silence that is masking other sounds. Mind-boggling. Nasty bug. All this sound can do is cause some distortion, probably because 24-bit sound can be only as loud as 0db. 32-bit floating point should be able to get louder, but still i don't think any sample file would be able to reproduce this product of error.

Foley for a bug scurrying along rocks in a glass tank. Quick, high pitched scurry in the pebbles. Made by shaking a plastic jar of almonds.

A technical problem i had with my technics stereo cassette desk rs-5 where playback would deliver this fading squarewave at maximum volume. Apparently, it could have been an issue with the tape header wearing out. Thought i might as well upload it here, as i'm not sure anyone will be able to create this sound again. Note, this sound was de-amplifiied by 10 db in audacity 3. 1. 3. Simply put, the raw file was incredibly loud. If you're curious enough, you can increase it back up to its original volume, though i wouldn't advise it.

Various layers of things scraping to create a visceral sound bed that evokes creepy crawly things. Created using various wire brushes slowly scraping against different surfaces.

An up-close recording of a single cricket chirping. I recorded this with a shure beta 57a microphone, at my house, with the mic a few inches away from one of my housemate's crickets (don't ask). I used cubase and izotope denoise to remove noise artifacts, as well as a low-cut to remove unwanted low freqs. Recorded in mono but exported in stereo, so both the left and right audio channels are the same.

After clicking on pause, this sound persists in the headphones. . . Don't know why. . . But it sounds interesting.
