September 19, 2020 shenzhen, china tested the air raid system. Sorry for the background noise. I was standing on a city street on a rainy day and the cars made a lot of noise driving through the wet streets. I'm not sure if they do this test every year but i do remember they did it last year. I'm also not sure if this is province wide (guangdong) or maybe even country wide. The government let us know about a week earlier that they would do the test. If they let me know one day or even better one hour before the test, i may have been able to get to a quieter area for a better recording. There were some tests earlier with longer tones but my recording had even more background noise and this was the best one.

There is a street musician downtown in the chicago area during blues fest. You can hear the background of automobiles in the background. Also, there is a guy selling 'ice cold water'. Some wind is heard since i was walking around.

Recorded in pritzker park in the south loop area of downtown chicago. I am sitting towards the back (west) of the park near the end of the path. The microphones are pointed roughly southeast towards the el train tracks. Time of the recording was 5:22pm. Weather was warm, in the upper 80s. After recording trains crossing the adjacent tracks i turned the microphones southwest towards the intersection of harrison and wabash. Traffic was heavy and drivers were frequently blowing their horns at each other. A couple of vehicles playing loud music stop at the light. Time of recording was 5:57pm. Weather was warm, in the 80s. The microphones are facing across the street to the el tracks which cross diagonally across the block at this point. The curvature of the tracks causes the squeaking of the wheels. Trains heading into the loop (north) tend to travel more slowly than those heading south. Cars accumulate at the intersection of harrison and wabash to the south (left). Time of recording was 5:41pm. Edited to remove potentially copyright infringing music (captured playing out of passing cars and motorbikes). Recorded with two countryman emw lavaliers in a head-mounted binaural arrangement, into a tascam dr-40 recorder. Processed to remove excessive bass rumble and compensate for eq curve of lavaliers.
