Here's a recording i did from the third floor balcony of my hotel room in the hyde park area of london. It was a noisy spot, but very atmospheric and ideal for recording street sounds, especially in stereo. Recorded on a tascam dr-40.

This clip was recorded on the traffic island in front of the square, facing the column with the national gallery behind it, street traffic can be heard in the foreground with the tourists on the square further in the background. Strange noise that emanated from a barn that was being built on the somerset/wiltshire border. Possibly created by the machine laying the flooring. Also wind, some distant traffic, birdsong.

Listening to nightingales & other sleepy birds in the evening. . . You can hear my baby rook taki squak at the very end, cause he was getting restless & wanted to go home to sleep for the night. You can hear nightingales, warblers and thrushes all around. This was recorded using my crappy, old mp3 player in the countryside of henfield, near brighton, england, on the 31st of may 2010. I often play it & other recordings i made around there for my birds in the evening, as a kind of nature lullaby. ^-^.

5. 1 surround field recording of the center courtyard of the barbican estate, an ensemble of brutalist concrete block highrises in central london/uk. It is a weekday morning, some people are walking and talking on the premises. A group of schoolchildren passes some distance away at the beginning, some light construction work is going on in the midrange, and in the far range the busy city noises of london can be heard. The recorder is in the center of the courtyard facing into the complex. Recorded with a zoom h2n and matrixed to 5. 1 surround.

Stereo field-recording of early morning (ca. 7:30 am) traffic on a rainy weekday in the little english town of goring-on-thames. The street is quite busy with traffic and has been mic'd close-range, giving quite a wide stereo image. One can clearly hear the rotten weather this clip was recorded in.

The recorder's rear mics, featured in this file, are facing away from the street into the sidewalk at a right angle at a height of approx. 60 cm. Traffic is passing in both directions, about 1 min. Into the recording, a bus stops and continues onward. Recording was conducted with a zoom h2. These are the rear channels of a 4ch surround recording, mics set to 120° dispersion.

You can hear people in the park next to york minster chatting, walking, laughing and there's distant city noises. Then, around halfway through the recording the bells start to ring out for midday. This is a recording picked up by dreamtalk, a good app for iphone/ipad/android, it records when i talk in my sleep but also activates when it picks up other sounds and so i decided to upload this it picked up of a dog down the street barking.
