I recorded this sound back in 2002. This is actually a toy top i had that had gears in it. When spun, it made this sound.

Spinning a cordless, brushless drill (check empty, no load speeds) at various bursts of different length. Some in 1st gear and some in 2nd gear; in 2nd gear the electric brake is more pronounced. Mic changes position now and again to vary the sound character.

I had various mics placed and recorded the full process of putting the keys in the ignition, cranking and putting into gear and then idle. This was in a nissan frontier.

This is actually the sound of me opening my little action camera 1st person camera's "briefcase" of parts and accessories for it, going through it a small bit and than closing it back up again.

Noises doppler shifted to make it sound like a race car accelerating and shifting gears in a very old racing video game.

I created this sound to mimic the sound of soldiers walking, only the sound of their gear moving and rattling. I created it moving some electric cables :).

A short clip of a recording i made from my cbf600 motorcycle gearbox and chain. You can hear gearbox wine (normal), the sound of the chain running over the drive sprocket, some gear shifts and a little wind noise. I recorded it to see what it sounded like. It can make a good reference with which to compare should you think there is a problem in the future. I like the sound of the engine running and gears, normally drowned out by the exhaust. I clipped the mic to the gear lever. If i do it again i will place it further away from the sprocket.

That sound was recorded in mai 2016 inside an old watermill house in bavaria, where the old waterwheel still drives a wooden gear with cogwheels. Originally that watermill had several purposes like hammering, sawing, pressing oil from different fruits or producing paper.

I was looking for a sound in which a few high-pitched bells could be heard together with the spinning gears of the striking mechanism. I couldn't find a sound like that, so i made my own. The two bells are from a sample user 'nemodaedalus' uploaded (wuc_bell_high_and_low. Wav). I recorded the spinning gears myself. The sound comes from a 1920's junghans clock i saved out of a dumpster. It's pretty much broken, except for the striking mechanism.
