In front of my desk in my room is a wood paneled wall with a cubbie. It's about a foot wide, 10 inches from top to bottom and maybe 7 inches deep. I'm just guessing. Around this cubbie is a border of wood. In the bottom right corner under the border i have jammed one end of an elastic string that used to have glitter on it. It's from a christmas box of chocolates my uncle sent me last year. I stand in front of this cubbie whose bottom is at chin height, (i'm only 5ft1in) so my arms are above my head as i pull this string across the cubbie up and to the left to the border on the top which acts as my only fret. The string is a few inches longer than the cubbie is wide, but when i pull it it gets longer so my hand is 3/4 along it's length as i pull back and forth across the border to tighten and loosen the string. No matter how hard i pull it never pops loose from it's mooring. This time the mic is sitting in the cubby so i get a much clearer and louder sound. When i stretch the string across the top it has a fairly long sustain, so i can play 4 notes on a single pluck.

In the first part until 01:54 i am playing the string at maybe 30° from horizontal. It has a buzzy quality that reminds me of an african folk instrument i can't remember the name of. From 01:33 to 01:54 i'm trying to imitate a korean folk vibrato kind of thing. In the second part until 02:29 i am playing 45 to 60° from horizontal and it sounds like a full-bodied string bass with no buzz. In the last part beginning at 02:34 i am playing about 75° from horizontal across the top border of the cubbie on the left so it sounds buzzy and african again, and i'm just going crazy goofing around with a crazy bluesy rock sort of rhythm. There didn't seem to be any homemade 1-stringed wall-cubbie basses on this site so here is mine, have fun. I don't play it if mom is home because the living room is on the other side of the wall and she can't hear tv. Also my neighbor can probably hear it in the next apartment lol. I took the raw recording and used goldwave's mechanize effect to translate my voice to a center frequency of 14khz. I then demodulated it first at 10. 6 and then 10. 2khz meaning that what comes out is essentially the opposite sideband, offset by 3. 4 and 3. 8khz respectively. 3khz just didn't sound as good. The first i filtered with a low pass of 2. 9khz, the second was filtered to below 3. 4khz to emulate a communications receiver passband. I am speaking upside down as described in this video. Being blind i can't see their diagram, but i've got my own by ear intuitive method, keeping in mind that oo and ee are farthest from each other, all other vowells get closer the closer they are to the middle of the human voice frequency range. I say: huhlay sue quee, sue quee, sue quee do ux. Cahlloong sue quee sue quee sue quee do ux. The ay in huhllay is like when a spanish speaker says béisbol (baseball). The a in cahlloong is like the a in cat if you're opening wide for the doctor. The oo is like the oo in book. Listen to the other file and you'll hear: hello cq cq cq dx. Calling cq cq cq dx.

It's hard to find a good doppler scream and harder to make the effect in sound editing systems. Here's a few falling scream varieties. Just toy with the pitch and you make a variety of plummeting people. Recorded at home on a phone recorder.

Had this swinging drum-beat going on in my head. Got it out and put a simple synth-line on top of it. I thought i'd keep it simple. Did it for something called victors crypt but i think it would suit anything strange, cool, weird, dark, goofy, spooky, creepy, fun. . . Anything you can think of actually!. As these are recorded using binaural in-ear mics, i purposefully don't turn my head to keep the sound clean and coming from the same direction. Let me set the scene for this audio because i am a nerd. . . Burbank, california. A large apartment/condominium complex with an open courtyard and a beautiful swimming pool and hot tub. I'm done in the hot tub and walking up 3 flights of stairs to my apartment. Squeak. . . Squeak. . . Squeak. . . Sure to sound either intimidating or goofy. Depends on your show!.
