Here in the midwest one sure sign that winter "has left the building" is when the neo-tropical migrants arrive in the forests to gorge themselves on the multitude of insects, and to raise a family. One of my favorite bird-songs is this "zipper" sounding call of the northern parula. Perhaps you have heard this very unique call while out in the woods. I recorded this with my zoom h4n recorder, using its internal stereo microphones. This sound was recorded around 7am on april 29th 2013.

The high desert (6-thousand feet) of northern arizona, near flagstaff. Walking at midday with the sandy gravel and dry, stunted vegetation crunching. You will also hear the many locusts which seem to be present by the thousands in place. Big blue sky all around, and nothing but the steps, and the crunching of the ancient land. Recorded on october 17th, 2017 near flagstaff arizona. Equipment used: sony pcm-m10 using built-in stereo microphones. The gain on my recorder was at 6.

Here in the midwest we were treated to a nice preview of autumn here in the northern hemisphere. Both the temperature and humidity were nicely lower than usual and this soundscape was recorded featuring the beautiful northern breezes and a few of the birds that still live here. Since this ambience was recorded during the work-week, there are hardly any man-made internal combustion engine noises. Just the wind lifting and swirling through the tired forest and the blue jays, crows and insects. Recording made at 2:30pm on september 13 2022. Equipment used: recorder-sound devices 702microphones- left channel- sennheiser mkh 416right channel - sennheiser mkh 8070. The right channel, the very low-noise direction shotgun microphone, was pointed just about straight up at the leaves and branches of a huge cottonwood tree whose dry leaves were putting on a show. Hope you can hear this. Recorded and edited in stereo so either good studio monitors or headphones will make you feel you are in the forest surrounded by the gentle breezes swirling through oaks and cottonwood trees and insects and birds.

A recording taken at 6:03 am - 7:03 am 2/3/2023 in northern wisconsin near a pond and small lake. The temperature is -21 deg f and you can hear the trees make popping noises occasionally due to the cold, which is the interesting part of this recording. There is a distant owl calling early in the recording and you can hear coyotes in the distance. Unfortunately trucks in the distance too. This is hour 854 of a 1054 hour recording (12/29/22 - 2/11/23).

Pacific tree frogs at night during mating season in british columbia. Slight wind sounds and occasional noises made by a black lab readjusting her feet on the concrete :-). Recording is mostly to the left but sometimes shifts a few degrees to the right, and the frog's build from only a few to dozens over the duration. Captured across the street from a water filled culvert in the southern gulf islands on an olympus ls7 portable digital recorder.

Sound of footsteps (hiking boots) in an artificial stone tunnel about 4 to 5 metres in diameter in brezzo di bedero (northern italy). The tunnel is part of the structures of the 'cadorna' defence line, dating back to wwi, and leads to an artillery emplacement in a cave. Sound of footsteps and crunching gravel under the soles, with a slight echo and reverberation from the cave environment. Perfect for creating eerie, natural and industrial backgrounds and first-person vr experiences. Recorded with a zoom h1n held in hand while walking and pointed towards the feet.

A recording made in the shawnee national forest in illinois on the very first day of october, 2022. This recording was made at mid-afternoon and features the peaceful, pleasant wind through the deciduous trees. From time to time though, the soft call of a nuthatch or a chickadee reminds us there is still bird life in the early autumn woods. Birds getting ready, getting stocked up for the upcoming northern assaults of cold air this winter. Some crows really start to put on a show towards the end of this stereo recording. I stood quite sheltered from the wind, above me the rustling trees from the breeze that was just blowing. In the distance a dog was barking. Nice stereo effect :-). The recording is edited. The music is a variation of the ancient folk theme of northern part of Rio de Janeiro state called "Dança da Urubu" also called "Urubu Malandro", "Samba do Urubu" or "O Urubu e o Gavião". That interesting time of year between winter and spring. Actually, here in the northern hemisphere winter can still be strongly felt. . . The outside temp. When this recording was done was a very cold 30 degrees f. But, as you can hear, the main players in this small-town soundscape are the american robins (turdus migratorious) who are busy vocalizing and setting up their territory. Despite the cold, these summer residents don't seem to let that get in their way. Recording made at 6:30am on tuesday march 13th, 2018 in the backyard of a home in a small town in illinois. As the earth continues to slowly tilt the northern hemisphere away from the warmth of the sun's rays, the pace of life in midwestern fields slows down. This recording was made at 3pm on wednesday october 5 2022 in a huge, 70-plus acre, abandoned farm field. A field bordered thousands of acres of state-owned forest. The soft peeps of the few remining birds, grubbing around for protein-packed insects is the soundtrack. At 5 minutes into this recording a delightful, friendly exchange between two birds as if they are saying "hey, let's help each other find food before this field is blanketed with snow at cold. ". At 7:05 in this recording a truck slowly drives by, softly crunching gravel and the driver slows down to witness this annual, melancholy autumnal change. A recording on an un-expected but very welcome warm day in january in the northern hemisphere. A recording of the activity going on at a small park in a small town, in a small region. The beginning of this mid-january 2023 recording features some sounds from several people playing pickleball. Towards the end of this audio, the laughter of the kids really takes center stage. By now covid is getting smaller and smaller in the rear view mirror, mother nature has decided to give us an extra 15 degrees of warmth and the adults, and youngsters are having fun just being outside and smiling and laughing. On March 11, 2018, the Marine Band presented a Living History program titled Marine Corps Women’s Reserve Band Tribute. The program told the story of the talented and adventurous women who served our country in a most unique and unprecedented manner. Author of the book Bands of Sisters: U.S. Women’s Military Bands During World War II, Dr. Jill Sullivan served as a guide through the personal accounts of those very women who blazed a trail for many to follow. The Marine Corps Women’s Reserve Band of Camp Lejeune was established under the watch of 'The President’s Own' to support bond drives and was active during World War II from 1943–45. In 1944, the ensemble even sat in for one of the Marine Band’s popular 'Dream Hour' broadcasts, a program that will be reenacted in its entirety as part of this concert. The performance took place in Schlesinger Concert Hall at Northern Virginia Community College in Alexandria, Va. Conducted by Capt. Michelle A. Rakers.

This is the sound of a viking electric lawnmower in action; mowing a piece of lawn. Today i got my audio equipment. This is my first contribution. When i was walking around today to catch sounds, i met a man who was mowing his lawn. I asked him if i could record him while he was mowing his lawn. He agreed and i was allowed to record him mowing. It's a viking electric lawnmower. Description: a man mows the lawn with an electric lawnmower. He drives the lawn mower over a piece of path to the meadow, mows and drives the lawn mower back. At the beginning of the recording, there is a short question asked if he should start now, which i confirm. The recording is unedited. A recording of the peaceful mid-autumn woods here in the midwest usa. I recorded this on november 15 2022 using a sony pcm d-100. In the northern hemisphere now, days now are much shorter, and much colder. Which means all of our energetic summer warblers and other migrants have long gone south, and are no doubt lounging around in a palm tree or something just gorging on insects. Here is the midwest woods? sure the summer birds are gone, but, the beauty of this season is that now you can hear the birds that never leave us. No matter how brutal the winter is, the blue jays, the black-capped chickadees, the many species of woodpeckers and the belted kingfishers never leave. This creates a different, but beautiful soundscape in the woods. For this particular recording, since i've found through years of roaming the woods, birds have a tendancy to be near water, i placed the recorder on a creekbank about 15 feet from a shallow creek. Now of course i could have gotten closer to the creek but by now the entire woods is a carpet of leaves -- this very slow-moving creek included. Which means the leaves had accumulated on thevery still creek water itself and i was concerned if i stepped on the leaves--thinking it was solid ground underneath, i would instead be "treated" to an ice cold pair of shoes and socks!.
