A recording of page turns and riffles. Recorded right up near the grille of the mic so perhaps not the most natural sounding recording out there. 80hz high-pass filter was applied with a 12db an octave slope. Normalized to -3db. Signal chain: cad e100s and a focusrite scarlett 2i2.

A few strokes from a felt tip pen. I couldn't find any of the right length on here so thought i'd share. Unfortunately these are recorded on a mobile phone, but i've not done any audio processing so you can gain and de-noise to your own needs.

My mogalyn consists of a torn-up book cover, a gnarled root i found on the ground, and a pinwheel called a "moga. " the moga spins, and picks rhythmically strum the strings according to their placement and the rotation of the mo. This version was created with paper and glue - which fell apart, so a more robust version is coming soon.

An hp officejet pro 8610 printer, printing multiple pages, via direct usb drive input. The usb drive used to store the documents is a lexar micron 8gb usb 2, manufactured in china. The chinese facility responsible for the assembly of the drive lies near the mouth of the yangtze river, in the tiny, quaint village of shanghai.

Paging through a book: here the quick flip of a page can be heard. The air being shoved around can be heard the sharp lifting of a page as well. It consist out of different tempo's to suit the users preferences. Recorded with the zoom h6, rode ntg in a sound studio.

Clean recording of various sounds that would occur when maneuvering around an office space (specifically a desk) and manipulating common office objects. Recording features lots of paper rustling and sliding across a wooden desk, handling pens and a stapler, stuffing manila folders and plastic binders, and towards the end there are some sounds of small-medium sized personal bag being unzipped and zipped and then being filled with some of the office materials. Should work great for filling in general office noises in a scene or reinforcing actions that involve any of the materials featured in the recording. There should be enough variety to allow you to glean more isolated sounds or just use assortments of layered sounds. Recorded with an akg p170 into a tascam 208i audio interface at 48khz/24-bit. Microphone was positioned roughly 1. 5 - 2 feet away from the source. There is some slight room reverb present, which is intentional, and should match common office workspaces well. An 85hz high-pass filter was applied to remove any unintentional, unnatural low-frequency rumbling that may have been picked up during recording.

Springtime in greenacres, washington. The birds are singing loudly, the wind is blowing, traffic can be heard in the distance, and an airplane flies overhead. Also heard is a distant train horn, a next door rooster, and a distant horn signalling break time at the paper mill.

Sound transparency (first example on sound transparency and opacity). This sound sample is a companion to my talk and paper presented at foteo ("faire oeuvre, transparence et opacité") at université laval, visual art department, may 2008. The paper title is: "transparence sonore : acoustique physique; opacité sonore : un phénomène psychoacoustique; implications en création sonore". This nearly trivial example shows what i call "sound transparency". Since sound propagation is a linear phenomena, sound is transparent: the presence of a given sound (here a razor) does not modify the sound quality of an other sound (here a knife being rubbed). You can appreciate the sound quality, timbre, texture, dynamic of each sound even when an other one is present. The second part of the sample is the repetition of the first part, but the two sounds are presented on different channels.

Recorded at an upstairs open window at 05:30 in april 2020 using a rode mic and a zoom h4n recorder. The usual birds are there plus the call of a pheasant, a resident of the field at the bottom of the garden. There's a low frequency ambient background. I think this was coming from a distant paper mill several miles away.

A sound composed from bunching wet paper towels smacked against the floor and a wet bottle of liquid being sloshed mixed together to create an impact sound. Creates a horrible sensation of flesh impacted by a powerful shockwave. A bottle with liquid being sloshed around gently can provide the needed element of a subdued liquid sound - taking away the need to filter it with low pass filters (but it can help boost other frequencies).

This is a very lowfi recording of a xerox workcentre 7345 actually performing a copy of a single page. Includes a button beep at the start, fan noise, servo motor sounds, paper sorter moving sounds and lots of other mechanics being moved around. You really get an idea how complicated these modern machines are. . :). The bitrate is only 13 kbit/s and the resulting audio quality not very good, but the file size is really small. Maybe audio level needs normalizing, though.

Vintage typewriter, olympia of 1956, inserting paper, adjusting, typing words and senetences with two finger push search system. At the end the sheet is pulled out of the machine. Sound is self created and recorded with "tascam dr-05". Original use in projekt "akte 12" (file 12). Alte schreibmaschine, eine olympia von 1956. Es werden das blatt eingeführt und justiert, ganze worte und sätze im zwei-finger-tast-suchsystem geschrieben. Am ende wird das blatt mit der hand aus der maschine gezogen. I asked for a fabric shredder because i couldn't find one, and i knew my dearest would knock himself out trying to. He didn't either but he did have one made, probably at considerable expense. It's a cute little portable unit, i think made of a modified paper(?) shredder, powered by a geared motor from a battery-operated power tool. It's probably a dangerous little work of art. So we're getting dressed in the bedroom after opening gifts on christmas morning, and i decided to try out my new toy. Good conversation, mechanical whir.

I go over and check the neighbor's mail to take up to her later, then check our own, then go back into the apartment where you can hear the tv. I was surprised this still worked. This is an old ibm selectric ii typewriter, with correcting tape, the “quieter” selectric at the time. It’s about 80 pounds, a real back-breaker. The carriage return bell is broken, unfortunately, so the best you might hear it is rattling due to the belt vibration. Recorded with a tascam dr-05, without the low-cut since i wanted a beefy sound. Placed direcly above the roller, about 12 inches away. I swapped the channels in audacity to match perception & sampled down to 48khz. Description: i roll in some paper, type a few paragraphs from some copy, and roll it out when i’m done. Man, can you type fast on these machines!.

Alien xxx sent me a “cross modulation challenge”. I have tried to be true to his idea, but added automation, so to speak. Oscillator1 is constantly fm-modulating oscillator2. I vary the frequency of oscillator1 with an lfo. The output of oscillator1 is sent to a) left audio channel and b) in to oscillator2. The output of oscillator2 is fed to oscillator1. The degree of cross fm modulation is controlled by a vca controlled by another lfo. The output of oscillator2 is also sent to right audio channel. As i’m writing this i have just made a theoretical patch on a piece of paper. The result is what you hear. No effects added. Straight out of the modular for better or worse.
