Subways in nyc don't usually get quiet. Somehow i found myself on a quiet train from new york to new jersey, not one vocal, apart from the public service announcement. Lots of what you'd expect from a train ride: squealing, screeching, rocking, and i got lucky as many stops and starts. Taken at 44. 1, with the fire app on an iphone 4. Don't doubt those little guys.

Doors open, an announcement plays, doors close, and the train departs.

The sound of the boom gates going down at a level crossing. A train arrives, stops at the other station, and departs with a blast from the horn. An announcement goes off in the distance. Then the boom gates go back down and a train, this time on the recorder's platform, arrives. The doors open and the train is boarded. This was recorded in australia.

Recording of a passenger train approaching from the right side and then stopping. It was taken on may 30th 2017. Captured from the platform using a zoom h5 handheld recorder and the corresponding stereo xy-capsule. Cuts and minor fades at the beginning and end have been applied using ocenaudio. This is about 2 minutes total. It is of an approaching long freight train passing about 100 yards away in it's entirety. Train was doing around 45 mph. There are no other background sounds, no traffic, no crossing alarms, no street noise, no airplanes, no people, etc. There are three diesel electric locomotives in the front, then about a mile of freight cars, then one diesel electric locomotive "pushing" from the rear (it almost sounds like a jet engine!). Recorded alongside the tracks in open west texas desert! recorded using a panasonic dvx200 with a rode shotgun mic & deadcat. Audio extracted from the video file.

Recorded on the san francisco side of alcatraz island, 08/25/2015. Recorder was placed on the railing on the back side of the yard above the staircase. A clear day, with plenty of water birds and gulls. Some tourists speaking various languages throughout. . . Some asking about the 'microphone'. This recording also catches the sf noon siren and a sea plane flying toward the end. My windjammer wasn't quite enough for the wind, so there's some rumble, but it can be cleaned up. Six weeks later all my money and passport was stolen while in crete and i made my way home via the british consulate in athens.

A short journey on london overground train from dalston to highbury and islington passing through canonbury. Recording includes ticket barrier noises, doors opening and closing and general announcements. This recording was made using a sound devices mixpre6ii and a stereo pair of fel em172 mics. Low cut on the sd which in basic mode is 80hz (i think). There is some processing to this recording to ‘normalize’ the levels and light eq-ing. I do not require any credit or attribution. This is a sound of a mercedes benz 709d mini bus driving on a really hard icy road. It was a rattly old bus, everything squeaked and rumbled on it. I videoed this journey with my canon powershot a460 digital camera, i simply took the sound from the video. It's a good sound, it turned out well thanks to the winter weather, and the rough icy road. This sound was made by me, i tied down my canon powershot a460 digital camera inside the engine bay of my 1993 rover 620si, and it's got a petrol honda engine, no turbo on this version. I had my video recording on my camera in the engine bay while i was driving. I started the engine up and took it for a drive. I simply took the sound off the video. . . Inside an intercity express (ice) between stuttgart and mannheim, sitting in an almost empty (three passengers) second-class broad-spaced compartment at around 9 pm. After a shaky first minute an even part follows for around 90 seconds. Interrupted by some road holes the steady sound continues, now with the frequency of the engine sound rising until the beginning of the fourth minute. Here the "main part" begins, starting with several moments of acceleration, deceleracion and breaking. From minute 5:15 to 7:35 the train reaches it's peak velocity, with only few bumps. After a short deceleration the train inceases velocity again, reaching a second peak, this time noticeably bumpier. Once in a while you can hear some element of the fitments rattling nervously along the track, depending on the constitution of the railways and the overall situation. During the last two minutes the train keeps on decelerating slowly and continuously until the end. Recorded in stereo with a portable stereo recorder (zoom); enhanced in audacity using a parallel dynamic eq (tdr nova), a compressor (vos density mkiii) and a binaural spacializer (auburn panagement).

It's recording of a passenger train's on duty. You can hear the train's motors, the wheels rumbling against the rails, the wagon connectors hitting each other, when the train stops also people chatting. Near the end of the recording the room acoustics change, because a woman entered the area between wagons where i was standing with my recorded pointed down. I was standing in a narrow passage, where two wagons were joined, between two closed slide-doors. She have opened those so the overall sound has radically changed and i decided to end the recording. Through the entire recording the unit is moving forward, decelerating, stopping, staring and accelerating again repeatedly as it travels stopping at several stations. The recording was done with a hand-held zoom h2. Rear mics used pointed to the ground. I was in the loudest area in the whole train. I was using "low" gain (h2 has three mic gain levels to choose from: l/m/h). Viewed and converted to flac using audacity, the file hasn't been altered in any other way. Originally recorded as a 96khz/24-bit stereo wav file.

I videoed this sound of a subway train in glasgow scotland on the famous "clockwork orange" train as they are called. I used my canon powershot a460 digital camera to video this, i simply took the sound from the video. I was lucky enough to get a good run on this with just a few poeple on board, so there wasn't any other sound apart from the train, the only time you here some movement of feet is when the doors open.
