Recorded on august 22nd 2020 using my sony pcm-10 recorder. An overnight recording going into early morning. A beautiful soundscape of a insect-laden overnight in a small midwest town. Fascinating to contemplate how, while us humans are sleeping soundly, preparing for our next day, nature, is performing this nightly chorus, under cover of darkness. Gentle, drowsy insects gently rocking the world. Washing over the world with the re-birth that night brings.

Thunderstorm recorded in essex, uk. Not far from an estuary so there are wading birds escaping the storm overhead. I have edited together the best bits of the storm with a fluctuation of rain intensity and frequent thunder rolls. Recorded with a zoom h6 msh-6 stereo mic.

This clip was recorded in august 2021 during the evening in a platform near the beach in le grazie, la spezia, italy. You can hear the sounds of the waves clashing with the platform, the people walking around, cicadas in the distance and also the sound of the boats navigating into the port. Most of the original hour long recording was ruined due to wind gust, but i edited it down to the only continuous 11 minutes without the gust of wind.

I heard a strong sounding grasshopper in a neighbor's busch i run into my house and picked up my recorder and mic and run out tried coming closest possible for good sound, but it was a little too close because the hopper become silent. Harp player from gambia, africa playing the chora, a typical harp used in gambia or senegal, in western africa, by the so called "griot", a singer, storyteller, singing songs and stories, thus beeing part of the oral tradition of his country and people. The recording was made during the berlin carnival of cultures in the summer of 2011, the harp player and the drummer (djembe) were sitting among the crowd of listeners open air at the bluecher platz. This recording was taken in the edinburgh cbd during the fringe festival in august 2022 in the early evening, around 7pm. I like it because it gives an idea of the unusual way that sounds travel in that city. I could never figure out the reason for it, but it was noticeable to me the whole time i was there. If anyone knows the reason please post it in the comments. The recording was made with the inbuilt stereo microphones of a zoom h5 portable recorder.

Imagine a warm, damp-humid august evening in the midwest. It's about 8pm and you're in a mowed path which is 10 feet wide. On either side of you, are two fields of tall -- 9 feet --- corn standing like green, thick grassy sentinels. This is where i was when i recorded this hypnotic sound-scape on saturday night august 9th 2014. I made this recording with my marantz pmd661 (modified by oade brothers electronics)in stereo using twin, matched samson co2 microphones mounted on my tripod about 5 feet above the ground. This is a recording of scrap metal collection taken in pilton, edinburgh in august of 2022 at 4:40pm in the afternoon. The first thirty seconds are the sounds of scrap metal being loaded onto the truck (a trampoline if i remember correctly) and some talking. Then you hear the truck start up, and the message through the megaphone "any old scrap metal!" followed by a list of scrap metal items. At this point the truck is slowly driving away. This was recorded with the inbuilt stereo microphones of a zoom h5.

A recording in the midwestern forest made on sunday september 27th, 2015 around 3:00pm in early autumn. At this time of the year a lot of the summer neo-tropical migrant songbirds either have left for their winter home, or, are quieting down and preparing to leave. During this transition period in early fall the woods are not as loud as, say, three weeks ago. Even the insects seem subdued. At around 12 seconds into this recording you hear the squeaky call of a tree-frog. Recording made with marantz pmd661 and two sennheiser me-66 microphones mounted on a tripod about 4 feet above the ground.

Recorded on mid-summer (that looked like mid-autumn) day 2010 in vilnius with a simple olympus voice recorder. I placed an old piece of metal sheet on a broken glass fish tank near a garage wall to catch the drops, recorder was placed in the middle of the sheet. The rain was very light and fine, later it intensified and became lighter again - all this is heard in the recording. Unfortunately three recorder beeps are heard at the end signaling that it was running out of memory. I later decided to leave them in as it quite unexpectedly added some drama to the whole record. . .
