A recording made in the shawnee national forest in illinois on the very first day of october, 2022. This recording was made at mid-afternoon and features the peaceful, pleasant wind through the deciduous trees. From time to time though, the soft call of a nuthatch or a chickadee reminds us there is still bird life in the early autumn woods. Birds getting ready, getting stocked up for the upcoming northern assaults of cold air this winter. Some crows really start to put on a show towards the end of this stereo recording. This is actually two separate tracks equalized differently to accentuate the crunch of the gravel, and to minimize wind noise. Output in mono.

Bird sounds, mostly 'apapane, recorded on the edge of kilauea caldera on the island of hawai'i. Created on an iphone 4s using tinyvox pro. Samples trimmed and normalized, but otherwise unprocessed, using audacity on a macbook pro. Recorded on halema'uma'u trail inside of hawai'i volcanoes national park on 30 nov 2013 at about 2:00 pm.

I designed this sound from scratch using a 20 millisecond pop of audio looped and processed heavily using ableton live's sampler instrument. The loop is 2 bars long, but it this sample file i trail off for quite a few seconds sustaining the note to show off the sustain processing on the synth.

I recorded the sound of my dog's collar using a zoom h4n recorder and a rode m3 microphone. This would be a good sound used in the background in an outdoor scene. I can imagine this recorded noise starting off soft and gradually getting louder to indicate a dog walking by before it softens up and gradually trails off as the dog gets further and further away.

Me walking from the trail into the fiesch ski resort in the swiss alps. Starts calm with footsteps on snow and then when i walk into the the ski resort you hear voices in multiple languages, ski and snowboard noises and mechanical noises from the ski lifts.

A peaceful, quiet soundscape recorded in the midwest during covid-19. This includes the nice, soft, gentle song of crickets during the midday. Plus, about halfway through, one of my favorite sounds--even though it is man-made, that of a propeller airplane droning on through the bright, breezy saturday. Recording made on saturday may 9th, 2020 at 3pm in the afternoon. It was made in short grass just off of an asphalt trail, running through a beautiful woods at a very popular state park in illinois. Because of the covid-19 shutdown, the background noise of cars was almost nonexistent. I recorded this ringtone from my then-typical motorola ultra classic cell phone in early 1997. This version has tiny fade-in/fade-out, about one second of leading silence and two seconds trailing silence for looping. I suggest amplifying it for use on a modern cell phone.

A more dreary version of spooky siren. The intonations of this feel more grimdark, in a sense total tripedation and tension over an event can be felt like the forthcoming of a thunderstorm over a hero illuminating him towards his true path. Reasynth, orilriver and losers filtering plugins were used. I inspired this from half life 2's citadel siren which contained a single trailing notation.

The very unique call of the cuckoo recording on may 23rd, 2015 in southern illinois. This "singing" sounds like nothing else in the forest. They are not very common in this part of the country, so, i am very very fortunate to have captured this primal call on " tape ".
