Chain that transports boxes.

Field recordings extracted from videos i took while travelling on a vaporetto (small public transport canal boat) along the grand canal. You can hear the water, the engine revving as the boat criss-crosses the canal from one stop to the next and the(mostly english)chatter of other passengers on the boat. On "venice2" horns are blown by other vessels and someone says at the end "i'm getting off the boat". I have joined 2 tracks on this one and there is a small gap, but with the right equipment that can be edited out. All in all very evocative of the busy atmosphere in venice, even in march (2012).

I tried to get a surround recording using mics, but there was a horrible street musician playing off in the distance. I thought it wouldn't be clear in the recording, but one of the mics picked him up quite well. The recording was ruined, so i did a little processing at home and came up with this freaky bit for your listening pleasure. Not sure if it's usable beyond listening, tho. . .

Rear channels of a 4ch-surround recording of the interior atmo of a small airbus passenger airliner (a lufthansa flight from london heathrow to berlin tegel). In the onset, you hear the steady drone of the jets, people talking, coughing, sneezing, newspapers rustling and notebook computers being typed on. Now and then, passengers and stewardesses pass by the aisle. Near the end, a signal bell sounds, and the drone of the jets takes on a perceivably higher tone, shortly after which the landing in berlin is announced, first in german, then in english. Recorded with a zoom h2, the mics (rear) set to 120° dispersion.

Usa, california - a diesel goods train is passing by in the ghost town of bagdad in the mojave desert. Close recording of the train (a couple of meters). Train horn is announcing he is coming. This recording was made on a warm, clear day in early june right on the sandy bank of the mississippi river -- between illinois and missouri. You hear the low, strong surge of the diesel engines as a barge slowly passes through and, what i find most enjoyable, you hear the gentle lapping of the river as the waves reach the sandy shore. You also hear various birds, including the common red-winged blackbird. Even though this recording was made around 3pm in the afternoon, you also hear a low chorus of insects adding to the relaxing summer-like ambience. A very peaceful, yet strong soundscape of a majestic natural wonder that’s been here for millennia. Recording made with the zoom h4n, using the built-in internal mics.

A complete trip on métro (subway) line 9 of the paris subway system, from the alma-marceau station to the havre-caumartin station. Starts with descent into the métro station and ends climbing up the steps back out at the destination. One train is allowed to pass, at about the 1-minute mark, as we wait on the platform, and an announcement giving the times for the next trains can be heard. The ride on the following train begins at around the 2-minute mark. There are two loud sounds between about 9:10 and 9:20 and some loud low-frequency wind noise at around 10:40 (as we leave the métro station and return outside), so beware. Recording with zoom h4n, originally 96 khz/24 bits, uploaded as mp3 320 kbps because the wav was so big (almost 500 mb).

Besides being an inspiration since man first explored her, the ancient mississippi river is also a highway for many coal-carrying barges. For this recording my zoom h4n was on the soft, powdery sandy bank about 60 feet from the river…you hear the gentle, but powerful thrumming of the giant diesel engines as a huge, 200 foot barge passes by. Some notable natural sounds are a very clear red-wing blackbird at 20 seconds in, and again at one mine in and again at one-minute 13 seconds into it. You hear a wonderful, clear splash at 27 seconds into as well. Recording made around 4pm on a warm -- 80 degrees -- june day. Close your eyes, dig into the powdery, soft sand of the mississippi river bank and float away on a warm summer day.

A short journey on london overground train from dalston to highbury and islington passing through canonbury. Recording includes ticket barrier noises, doors opening and closing and general announcements. This recording was made using a sound devices mixpre6ii and a stereo pair of fel em172 mics. Low cut on the sd which in basic mode is 80hz (i think). There is some processing to this recording to ‘normalize’ the levels and light eq-ing. I do not require any credit or attribution. A long recording on board the "green car" of the jr tokkaido line from atami to shinagawa. A "green car" refers to the first class cars on some long distance local trains. The ride is smoother and the cars are generally much quieter. The cars are generally empty but, this was at the end of a 3 day weekend, so the car was actually quite active (i'll try to get a quiet one soon). You can hear the ticket attendant, the conductor's announcements, station arrivals and departures, passengers getting on and off the train and settling in and having conversations. At some point you can hear the guy behind me eating senbei (a crunchy japanese rice cracker) - that's a little annoying, but there might be some usable bits in there if you're good at editing backgrounds. But like i said, i'll try to get a less busy train next time. Recorded with 2 stereo mic pairs and unedited.

This is a sound of a mercedes benz 709d mini bus driving on a really hard icy road. It was a rattly old bus, everything squeaked and rumbled on it. I videoed this journey with my canon powershot a460 digital camera, i simply took the sound from the video. It's a good sound, it turned out well thanks to the winter weather, and the rough icy road. This sound was made by me, i tied down my canon powershot a460 digital camera inside the engine bay of my 1993 rover 620si, and it's got a petrol honda engine, no turbo on this version. I had my video recording on my camera in the engine bay while i was driving. I started the engine up and took it for a drive. I simply took the sound off the video. I videoed this sound of a subway train in glasgow scotland on the famous "clockwork orange" train as they are called. I used my canon powershot a460 digital camera to video this, i simply took the sound from the video. I was lucky enough to get a good run on this with just a few poeple on board, so there wasn't any other sound apart from the train, the only time you here some movement of feet is when the doors open. It's recording of a passenger train's on duty. You can hear the train's motors, the wheels rumbling against the rails, the wagon connectors hitting each other, when the train stops also people chatting. Near the end of the recording the room acoustics change, because a woman entered the area between wagons where i was standing with my recorded pointed down. I was standing in a narrow passage, where two wagons were joined, between two closed slide-doors. She have opened those so the overall sound has radically changed and i decided to end the recording. Through the entire recording the unit is moving forward, decelerating, stopping, staring and accelerating again repeatedly as it travels stopping at several stations. The recording was done with a hand-held zoom h2. Rear mics used pointed to the ground. I was in the loudest area in the whole train. I was using "low" gain (h2 has three mic gain levels to choose from: l/m/h). Viewed and converted to flac using audacity, the file hasn't been altered in any other way. Originally recorded as a 96khz/24-bit stereo wav file.
