And lift off! i made a recording by fluttering a golden spatula from near to far (take off). I managed to get this effect by wiggeling the spatula between my thumb and index finger. This was recorded at open window institute's (gauteng, south africa) sound booth.

Some recordings meant to work as the flapping of bat wings. To record this, i just used a plant with slightly leathery/plastic-sounding leaves and shook it a few times in front of a mic. Simple but effective!.

I fluttered a plastic spatula in front of my tlm-103 in the studio. It's recorded at 96k, 32 bits, so you can stretch it or pitch it any way you want. If you want it to sound small you'll want to filter off the low end. On the other hand, you can probably get some fun gigantic effects by using just the bass, or even pitching it down. An extra on set caught a cicada and let me record it flapping its wings. I used an at-897 to record this into a 664. It's very close mic-ed.
