This is the sound of a toolbox full of diverse tools at ubica lab (upf). Their research areas are enclosed within the general disciplines of ubiquitous computing, contextual intelligence and cognitive systems, using sensors and radiofrequency identificaiton (rfid).

Classic frigidaire (electrolux) fridge turning on. It runs a cycle for about 6. 5 minutes, making a few noises along the way, and then turns off and cools down. Recorded with at875r. For those who really care, this fridge is electrolux model # ftmd18p4kw2.

Recording of a bosch refrigerator. Recorded and processed at 24bit 96khz using the tascam dr-40 linear pcm recorder. Processing: gain-staging and soft high and low frequency filtering. No eq boost or cuts anywhere else.

A broken fridge at a place i work sometimes. Starts off sounding normal enough but then slowly starts going crazy, i'm no refrigeration expert but i'm pretty sure there's something wrong here. Made me jump when it makes that first noise :p.
