This was recorded inside the blue mosque in istanbul during friday prayer in may 2005. To get in to the blue mosque with recording equipment we had to get a permission from the religious authorities. We also needed a muslim to operate the equipment since the friday prayers were forbidden for non-muslims. We set up the recording equipment and let our turkish guide hit the record button once the prayer started. The sound is recorded using an m/s rig straight to dat and processed afterwards with a hp filter in protools to remove microphone rumble. I recorded this to use as a sound effect in a play called "pentecost". The sounds i recorded were made by a college class in a theatre. I used a crown sass to make this recording. Here it is mixed with a sound clip from syna-max called war with other sounds as well to create the finished effect for the part of the play where the painting explodes. I also have just the crowd noise on here. After that the police jumed through the wall and started shooting people and i played a sound by matt_g called m240.
