A steady rain falls silently through the still december night air, then splatters all over the tile and cement surfaces of a back yard, splashing in standing water. Testing the sennheiser mke 2002 binaural microphones (circa 1973), playing bongos resting on my lap. The microphones are designed to be mounted either on a dummy head or - as i use them here - a user's own ears. Binaural recordings require headphones for full effect.

Recordings from one of my workshops at uni. Gareth stuart is playing while we test mic techniques for: interaural intensity difference, interaural time difference and which techniques and positions reduced the instruments natural hiss, but we also discovered that a lot of people like the clarinet's tuneful hiss. We used an ab split stereo pair , xy pair and then an ortf pair. Used rode's nt5 pair, veeery nice.
