A bell announces a train is coming, quickly followed by the roar of an approaching engine. Many train cars pass in a cacophony of steel wheels and roaring mass, followed by a fade-out.

This is the arrival of the class 40 locomotive into bury station on the east lancashire railway. The sound was recorded from bury south signal box as the train rounded the curve into bury bolton st station. This was recorded on the h4n. The date of the recording was 12th january 2013.

Field recording of an electric train passing by. Recorded fairly close, wide dynamic range. I had to reduce the input gain during the middle section of the recording to avoid overloading the adc. I think this a fairly good example of the spatial image binaural recording can provide. Gear: sharp minidisc, soundman okm binaural microphones.
