This emulates the ambient noise of a planet sized computer and its associated gargantuan processes. I aimed for a "what if" scenario. Broadmoor hospital siren test. The broadmoor siren. Every monday morning at ten o'clock the deafening sound of an air-raid siren disturbs the peace over a large area of the leafy commuter belt that is berkshire, uk. The signal sounds the familiar alternating high-low note, followed by a constant all-clear note five minutes later. It's not a re-enactment of the blitz; it's a test of the escape alarm at the local mental hospital, broadmoor.

I was recording outside my bedroom window while eating dinner in the living room, then i came back in here to see if i got anything interesting. I was zooming through the recording at 5x speed when i came across this bit of incidental pareidolia. I'm not sure what was going on, maybe the neighbors' stereo, but i don't remember hearing it, it's much louder in the living room so i should have. Whatever it was came out as a little distant choppy 2-notes alternating melody when played at 5x speed, which suddenly gets louder and solid as you hear the lower note followed by a third lower note. These 2 louder notes sound to me like someone singing the words all day. This would lead me to believe the original tones have some light harmonics i don't hear at normal speed. After which it goes back to the softer stuttering 2-note alternating thing from before. It doesn't sound like much at all at normal speed. So i just did a few straight pitch changes with goldwave until i got to 5x and saved this little file. See if it sounds like "all day" to you.

The putipu'ù is a percussion instrument used in neapolitan folk music and, generally speaking in the folk music of much of southern italy. (an alternative name is "caccavella". ) the name putipù is onomatopoeia for the "burping" sound the instrument makes when played. The instrument consists of a membrane stretched across a resonating chamber, like a drum. Instead of the membrane being stuck, however, a handle is used to compress air rhythmically within the chamber. The air then spurts audibly out of the not-quite-hermetic seal that fastens the membrane to the clay or metal body of the instrument.

A science fiction, space age sliding door noise made for my sci fi sitcom accidentally reckless. I think this one was made from me making a 'tsch' noise but then with lots of other things done to it afterwards. I think it worked ok (much better than than the one i made out of me making 'zzzz' noises.

Summer afternoon sounds at denver, colorado's union station water sculpture plaza, with children playing. Sitting and facing to the southeast, toward the center of water installation, with its alternating flying arcs of water. Recorded at 24/96 using a sound professionals ms-tfb-2 binaural mic set with 12vdc battery box and a sound devices mixpre-6. Initially uploaded as redbook audio, but the 96khz seems to have the best spatial clarity and so i'm resubmitting this now without that downsampling step, for those who download.

The sound of a construction worker operating a concrete road saw on a rainy day is heard in this recording. The recording begins with the saw already in operation, then is shut off and shortly restarted. He makes a couple of passes on the section of road he is working on and turns the machine off. A nearby siren is also heard at the end, so the shutdown at the head can be used as an alternative. Gear: zoom h6, xyh-6 x/y capsule (120 degree stereo image), rycote windjammer. This is another short sound using bells, and other outstanding plugins. It is a scene where you can dream and relax. A little thing i came up with while doing some research on how j macis writes music. Found out he puts a capo on the second fret and by doing that this japanese pop chord progression i learned by watching a video marty friedman did on japanese style guitar improv was sounding a lot better than without one. I made this sound in september 2003 - i used a fairlight mfx 3 - a direct descendant of the first sampler ever made - and the best ever to this day editing software for ground breaking features and functions. Clip based eq and level which you could cross fade between made the use of automation almost redundant in precise to picture editing. It also had a unique alternative jog function. You could loop 1 frame or so as you chose of sound at the orginal pitch which made it easy to find transient points. I then 'grind' the play head over a solo'd sound and play this into a reverb unit. I have many of these accidental experiments and one day i shall make the fairlight pack!. Until then enjoy this alien - from mars with love :). Ps - you can do this experiment today! i found that i can use sound flower as an out put in audio finder. If you open a sample in the sample editor - you can recreate the fairlight jpg by grabbing the playback head in play. You may then route sound flower thru an input channel and get some unusual effects that are difficult to achieve. . If you can improve on this method let me know!.
