This is a night field-recording of the frogs and insects in a pond on the grounds of the grove studio, somersby, nsw. The recording was made on a tascam dr-44wl @ 24bit 48khz and then the distance freeway and other noise was attempted to be removed using rx spectral de-noise. The files have then been normalised. The forecast for 17-year cicadas, commonly referred to as locusts, was "billions" for the united states alone. I think i may have at least one of those billions here. This file was amplified only slightly and was recorded at about 8 am in sixty degree f temperature.
This is an audio recording of brood x cicadas from a tree in my yard recorded on june 1, 2021 in northern virginia. Please note there is a mail truck that you can hear at around the 1:40 mark and some neighborhood workers speaking at 2:05 with a nail gun at 3:33. Birds come in at 2:40 and the cicadas really begin to crescendo at 3:14.

The sound of a cicada can be deafening, but it can also be the perfect buzz to drown out the negative thinking in your head. It's loud, overpowering and sharp, and it's really weird that it comes from an insect.
