A short outdoor walk in northwest florida. July 2022, 9 pm. I wasn't expecting my old tape recorder to capture any environmental sound, but it did, so here it is. This is a raw recording - no cleanup was done.

Ancient bits of sound i had rendered a long time ago for a friend's music project i secretly collaborated on ;). These are old programmed synthesizers with heavy effects, each one slightly different. And they're perfectly loopable if you want!.

Very loud, close recording of an old, partially functional wallensack reel-to-reel tape recorder. Recording includes the tape motor in operation and a piezo mic being dragged across the surface of the tape recorder. The recording has a fair amount of both background noise, and hum from the machine itself.

This started out as a really long jam session with synplant and a ton of randomized lfos and midi generators. I then resampled a snippet from it, drenched it in fx, threw ableton's resonator on it, then slapped on a utility that makes resonator play chords, which were generated from splash pro's ai keyboard.

Because i consider myself primarily a harsh noise producer, i decided to upload a few examples for those who have ears still virgin to the horrors of terrorous hardcore industrial noise.

Recorded on the back porch 7-2-2022 in pa. Feel free to use however. I make lofi music and use sounds just like this one for rainy versions. This is a sample of a classic (diy) dubsiren build by me. Its a squarewave synth modulated with a squarewave lfo. The sample is dry. Add delay and some chorus, reverb, (resonant) (auto) filter or so to get the typical dubby soundsystem style.

Created from ableton's stock instrument "light key". Created a midi, freezed and flattened, added automation effects added some lfo, some eq re arranged the echo effect to fit what i thought, and just saved it as this.

Ripped from vinyl record and transformed into a completly new sound just to create ambient sounding effects, maybe for a background noise, or whatever the heck ya like!!. This sample was created using over 15 effects and eq's.

Recorded from a siemens kleinsuper a8 tube-driven radio. Those devices were sold in 1958 and 1959. Recorded with a t. Bone sc450 condenser over a behringer ddx3216 digital console into ardour. The sample has been normalized. This sample was recorded from the defective medium wave section of the radio. It contains mostly dark hum and rumbling.

I wanted to record some output from an experimental device and in the moment of pluggin it in it caused a hum noise mixture. It sounded nice for something percussive. Found a half-broken wind-up rotating christmas tree music box. . . Thing. . . Raw 24/96 ms recording; be sure to decode before use. Left channel is mid, right is side. To do this manually you should separate the channels to two mono tracks, duplicate the side track and invert the duplicate. Pan the side tracks hard left and right, and mix with the mono mid channel. Or use a plugin to do it for you :d.

A technical problem i had with my technics stereo cassette desk rs-5 where playback would deliver this fading squarewave at maximum volume. Apparently, it could have been an issue with the tape header wearing out. Thought i might as well upload it here, as i'm not sure anyone will be able to create this sound again. Note, this sound was de-amplifiied by 10 db in audacity 3. 1. 3. Simply put, the raw file was incredibly loud. If you're curious enough, you can increase it back up to its original volume, though i wouldn't advise it.

Two mourning doves: one close, one far distant, in a mating call and response. Pretty clean, spring pre-air conditioner pollution season background with light birdsong way back. Recorded @ 8khz with a griffin italk mic to a recently refurbished 20gb 3rd generation ipod - my favorite lo-fi field recording / interview rig. If you have a recording device on your person, you get a lot of stuff you'd otherwise miss altogether. This rig helps me get those things too ephemeral to capture with a stereo pair; sounds i would regret not having at all. I keep it on my belt 90% of the time. Just in case.

A sputtery drum beat. The bass is from freesound, the snare is from a small chop of my fist hitting an oil drum, and the small breath that acts as percussion is from a children's toy. The hi-hats are from vinyl crackles and mistakes in other recordings, made to sound like the crackles themselves are making the music. 88 beats per minute. Bought an old sony walkman from an antique mall. It was advertised as "radio works, but cassette player does not play. " this was true, and i was surprised at the noises it made when you tried to play tapes, though whether or not you have a tape or not it makes these types of noises when you switch it to the metal/chrome setting with dolby b on. You can add a 60 hertz hum if you touch any of the metal parts, and can somewhat mess the sound by messing with the spindles as they move. I may upload some more samples of this at one point, with cleaner recording of each of the sounds you can create.

This is an edited field recording that i used in a track of mine. I recorded it at the zoom natural park, near torino, italy. It's actually 4 tracks of waterfalls and birds signing, with a little delay on the birds. It's made to loop around itself unnoticeably. If someone is interested, i'm willing to release the whole field recording. It's 7 tracks, but very little of it is devoid of external noise.
