I have made a patch that generates drones. Lets call this generative. . . I use feedback on my spring reverb. I only use one filter. The drone is structured by a triangle lfo and 2 comparators. It's tricky to balance the patch to give varying and interesting results. The drone is made with a 100% analog modular synth.

Here's a recording made in saint-urbain (charlevoix) pq, canada in the forest a morning of august 2014. You can hear grasshoppers, crickets, wasps and a creek in the background. This recording was made with a sound devices usbpre2 into a tascam dr-680 (spdif) and 2 microphones studio project c1 in ortf stereo pattern. It's in 24 bits 96khz , 40hz low cut.

Recording of my own fireplace made with a tascam dr-40 (internal mics). I blasted up the lower freqs, kept the mid-range close to 0, then from 5-16 khz went back way up, slowly tapering down to below zero for the highest frequencies. All editing done in audacity, compressed using soundkonverter in linux. This is a good sound effect for either a bonfire or a house burning down, which is what i made it for.

I made this pad sound by starting with a traditional saw wave and mixing various effects together such as reverb and chorus. The wav file also has pre-defined loop points that can be used in samplers that support the functionality. Note: there is a slight static noise that is present when the sound is played through the freesound player on the website, however, the static is not present when played outside of the freesound audio player. Digital noise made from raw binary files extracted from hdd with hexplorer using raw import function in audacity. Files were 4, each made from 200 sectors. I modified each sound using filters and joined them together to make longer looping example. Good to use in a game or 3d video animation as background ambient noise. Audacity and hexplorer are freeware and you can make similar job with them. . .
