This is a spanish choir, one of the chirigotas who play in the carnaval in cádiz each year. This choir were renting the apartment next to mine in andalucia for a weekend. They invited me in for a beer and before i knew it they were out on the terrace singing their lungs out. Such wonderful people.

This lovely little toy piano has been a member of my parent’s home since before i can remember. These days it falls under the jurisdiction of my 4-year old niece, who was ever so kind as to allow me to record it!. It has a fabulous tinkling and out-of-tune carnival sort of sound, and i wanted to capture that before the piano was destroyed altogether. Recorded in november 2006 at the "dom" (funfair) in hamburg by axel s. And me. Nice atmosphere, many different sounds. The recording was done with a sony md mz-909 and an "in ear stereo mic". We walked around through the crowd and recorded different fairground/funfair rides when passing by. .

Walking down a carnival midway and we hear various conversations as we pass, bells ring, and people try their luck at midway games that make various clunks and thuds. A recorded announcement at the duck pond games says "anyone can win a duck. Even you, dad" or something like that. . .

Stopped in a tiny museum in kansas and the curator turned on the 1900s edison photograph for me and let me record the classic sound of music with all the hums and associated scratches. In 's-hertogenbosch in holland we have carnival every year. This is a recording in the centre of the city. A recording of several 'dweilorkesten' that is a band that plays musing in the street. 'literal' translation is 'mop band or mopping band'. The go trough the streets like someone mopping the floor. This recording at the market-place is made with hundreds of people around. The ambience here is totally different from other places in the town and the world. It complete different than the south american carnival. Recorded: march 7th 2011, markt, 's-hertogenbosch, holland.
