I was fooling around with audacity and created this neat little sound. I have no clue how to lower the volume, and really, i mean it: this thing is loud. I keep my volume at 10% and i couldn't even listen to this thing with my headphones. I have tried to lower the volume (so that it doesn't hurt the ears) but to no avail. These are a series of gunshots that are supposed to resemble a laser sort of weapon, like an alien weapon. To make this, i used a filter that has a vocoder, polyvox, and talkbox, with distortion added. The initial sound i'm making is a chirping with my mouth and the filter does the rest. I think this works well on its own but it should work well mixed in with another sound effect if you choose to mix it. There is no reverb added or environment effects so its very flexible. This is from a recording session trying to create laser weapon sounds. I just used the same technique as ben burtt used in wall-e (with the slinky and the contact mic). This is unprocessed, no eqs, compression, reverb or anything was added. I used a long piece of curled up aluminum wire which i hung from a tall structure at my house and the main object i used to oscillate the wire was a drum stick. For the recording i used the blue icicle and recorded into reaper. The contact mic is my own creation from a diy i found online (roughly €5 to make). After searching the vastness of the interweb for some 6 inch zilbel samples with no luck, i finally decided to record my own bell. Theres 3 versions of 4 single samples each, 4 chokes, 4 medium and 4 hard hits. I know a lot of you out there have been searching for some samples of one of these bells for a long time so here ya go guys, totally free, full to use for whatever you want, no credit needed to be given to me. There i was late a night. I was turning my computer off after editing my site. I was silenced by night. But there was a storm a brewin' i opened my bedroom window and put my ear to the icy wind. I knew then this wasn't the usual mellow wind. I ran down the stair with my zoom h4n equipped, went through the garage into the black of night. I sent my gain levels to 60 and with only a foam wind shield i put it between to to boards of wood to act as a wind shield thus allowing my to capture the wind slicing through the trees. With only adjusting the gain levels slightly in post nothing else been done, allow you to add you own effect on it.

This, my dear friend, is ils - infinitely loud silence. Play some other sounds and then play this, and you'll know why i call it this way. It's created by a bug present in lmms, a free program for electronic music production. Actually this sample can't reproduce the ils phenomenon, that creates a dc offset so big, that it outnumbers any other signal getting out of the same audio interface and the result is silence. It's a silence that is masking other sounds. Mind-boggling. Nasty bug. All this sound can do is cause some distortion, probably because 24-bit sound can be only as loud as 0db. 32-bit floating point should be able to get louder, but still i don't think any sample file would be able to reproduce this product of error.

Patch 2: inspired by distant airplanes. Had this in mind. Now i patched up my idea. The wind (or what you decide to call it) is controlled by alm pip slope. New module – for me. Used an external effect, the zoom ms-70cdr. Patch 3: read about feedback. I decided to do a feedback patch. First i made one using oscillators, but i did not manage to do something nice. So i used filters. The first filters feedback is generating triggers. Oh, yes, and i used my sampler (soundmachines ul1uloop). So three patches. I merged/mixed them together in audacity. All sound unedited. Just normalized and i have applied fade in/out – and mixed them together - as written.

About the sample: here is a deep/house kick i made. Using an mpc 60. It has been further processed using uad2 powered plugins/ & waves. About me: i make all my content from the ground up,i sample from analog drum machines, i never use softsynths in my sample material. I just prefer to offer the best samples possible. As these are recorded using binaural in-ear mics, i purposefully attempt not to turn my head to keep the sound clean and coming from the same direction. Of course, if you don't want binaural audio you can always easily convert to mono. This is a recording of me approaching a soda machine in my apartment complex, swiping my credit card in the new, handy-dandy credit card slot, and dispensing a coke zero (in case you really needed to know). This wav file is a take-away from a midi track my current project. The vst instrument is 4front e-piano and it's free! - the root key is g major, starting off in the piano roll at g3. The bottom drops to g2 and uses heavy steps, separated by a key to reach g2. Going back up to g3, the notes are shortened and no keys are skipped. Hence the fairytale stares ascents. The ceiling above g3 is g5. So 1 octave down, 2 up. The tight stairstep is maintained above g3. There is just downward notes to keep it sounding like a saw form. I made this one a morning while having a cup of strong java. It's done in garageband for a thing called victors crypt. Made a drumbeat with open hi-hat. After 4 rounds the hi-hat closes and a cowbell comes in. Did a bassline to go with the beat. Then i added instruments on top of that. Starts out pretty mellow in minor, dark. Then builds up with the bass, and after that a loud synthesizer and back to a more mellow part. I think it's a bit spacey/sci-fi. That's why i named it "exit planet terror". Added some atmospheric sounds in the middle but the solid ground is very drums 'n bass. Didn't want to put too many elementsin the mix. Sometimes it's best to keep it simple. Think the groove/beat is alright so didn't want distractions.
