I needed the sound of a plastic recycle bin being rolled out to the curb. I set my zoom h1n on the sidewalk at the end of my driveway and - in two trips - rolled the cans out to the curb. You will hear me walking to the cans in the right channel, the garbage bin is rolled from the right channel to the center-left. Then repeat for the recycle bin.

This is the sound of a storm drain emptying into a gutter. My street floods in heavy rain, giving the storm drain a river-like sound. I placed my roland r-05 on the sidewalk just above the drain. It babbles and splashes like a river, but it is on a residential city street. I recorded it at 2am, so there are few vehicles in the recording though several faintly pass by in the background. This morning i woke up to the sound of a city crew jackhammering concrete just outside my window. I grabbed my h2 and recorded for a while. This file is an edit of the full recording. It contains two bursts of jackhammering, one fairly short and one longer. The background noise is the sound of the air compressor. Toward the end the compressor is turned off and the last of the pressure is released by the jackhammer as it sort of "putters out". This last bit is a bit unique.

A field recording made as i walked on the north side of bloor st w, near shaw street in toronto on the evening of 29 may 2011. This is a commercial strip with many ethiopian bar-restaurants, outside of which men gather to smoke and have conversation. You can hear some of these as we pass along bloor, as well as the conversations of other passers-by. These sounds are pretty typical of this section of bloor on a fine spring evening. The eerily quiet soundscape of a small midwestern town during the covid-19 shutdown. . . This was recorded in town, on a friday night (april 3rd, 2020) at a time when there is almost always more traffic, people and families walking and talking on the sidewalks. . This recording started at 11pm at night. . . What a strange, weird eerie feeling of this track. You will hear a lot of steady wind gusts, dry leaves being moved around by the strong southerly flow. . Equipment: sony pcm-m10 recorder sitting on a small tripod about 3 inches from the ground. . . I had to really crank up the gain on this one because everything was so quiet---almost as if the neighborhood was holding its breath. . . . Hope you enjoy this unique ambiance.
