The dutch city of leiden has a test of its civil emergency alarm, at midday on the first monday of every month. Here is a distant recording of the alarm as it is heard in a leiden soundscape.

Hi. This is a loop of aurora colorado'sold whelen wps-3016 system test. The city had 3016's, and wps-2810's. They did the wail tone for 3 minutes, and the whoop tone for 30 seconds. This is a one sycle loop of the wail tone. You can hear the other sirens in the system in the background, as well as some very excited dogs that where barking during the whole test. I don't know the exact location of this siren. Also, the system has been removed and replaced with new whelens a couple of years ago. They had a yellow wps-3016 in the sistem hope you like it. This sound effect was captured by me on video on my canon digital powershot a460 camera, i stood just above the motorway at charing cross glasgow scotland and captured this sound from the jam packed motorway, both sides were busy, i even caught the sound of a police car coming along the hard shoulder. I simply took the sound from my video. Very annoying high pitched alarm. This is a one of the results of my attempt to complete a school assignment. We were supposed to create an alarm clock or a ring tone with audiogen synthesizer. I went with as much annoying sound as i managed to produce.

Over 3 minutes of loud motorcycles streaming by revving their engines plus sirens and horns during an insane motorcade of bikes and choppers that temporarily took over streets of the westside highway. After a few minutes, door is closed, i let you hear the difference, and we’re done. Recorded with a tascam dr-05 at about 5 am. Converted to mp3 with command “lame --preset extreme” since it’s rather huge. Not normalized; lame reports a playback gain of +21 db.

It's hard to believe, but the dog began singing just after it had heard the sound and stopped when the sound stopped. The voice pitch also accompanied the melody.

An atmospheric and mostly mellow walking recording in lower east side, nyc. There are many metal access doors to the streetside businesses that are built into the sidewalk and that is the banging that you hear as people walk over them. Clips also has a few snips in it.

Fire alarm as used in sunderland royal hospital. This damn thing was tested over a dozen times, whilst i was sitting in the urology department waiting to have the p***taken out of me. I happened to be testing the voice recording capabilities of my sansa clip zip mp3 player, at the time. I'll think you'll agree this is exceptional quality for such a tiny microphone and only minimal background noise removal.

This is a recording of michigan avenue in chicago from an interior perspective made from the 24th floor facing west. The microphones were spaced apart and placed very close to the window. Interior ventilation/air conditioning rumble is audible. This could be a useful sound for a downtown city office background. Time of recording was 3:05pm.
