Besides being an inspiration since man first explored her, the ancient mississippi river is also a highway for many coal-carrying barges. For this recording my zoom h4n was on the soft, powdery sandy bank about 60 feet from the river…you hear the gentle, but powerful thrumming of the giant diesel engines as a huge, 200 foot barge passes by. Some notable natural sounds are a very clear red-wing blackbird at 20 seconds in, and again at one mine in and again at one-minute 13 seconds into it. 24/48 recording of a section of ranch area in patagonia arizona. There is a light consistent breeze blowing through trees and rustling leaves on the ground. There is a small stream flowing over rocks nearby. There is no animal or human sound.

I used bdx for the kick, sent through disto-fx and various eq plugins. Cymbalistic was used for the hihats, with further eq and gating placed on it. The snare was from a free sample pack (i can't remember the name of) sent through a resonator, eq plugins and some soft-clippers to give it a bigger sound. Clipmax was used on the master channel.

Heard a barred owl calling in my backyard. Grabbed my zoom h4n with audio-technica at897 shotgun mic and started recording. Did some minor equalization to soften the higher frequencies and roll off the low end. Crickets are chirping in the background, a few other insects make some sounds. Soft droning of a couple planes flying by and vehicles from a highway about a mile away, but do not overpower the barred owl.

Cartoon-style bomb launch and distant explosion. Doppler shifting whistle starts at centre and pans to extreme right with fadeout. A muted detonation follows at extreme right - a non-realistic and short explosion. Created with ni fm8 running as a vsti inside flstudio 11 with a touch of fl reverb2. The "projectile" whistle is a soft square wave lightly modulated by a sinewave at 6x the frequency of the square wave fundamental to give it a touch of metallic ringing.

I recorded this using my small sony cybershot camera. You'll notice that the wind goes from loud to soft to loud again, repeating. This because i am opening the window wide and then after a few seconds i close the window but not completely so that i get some low whistling sounds from the wind.
