This recording was taken in the edinburgh cbd during the fringe festival in august 2022 in the early evening, around 7pm. I like it because it gives an idea of the unusual way that sounds travel in that city. I could never figure out the reason for it, but it was noticeable to me the whole time i was there. If anyone knows the reason please post it in the comments. The recording was made with the inbuilt stereo microphones of a zoom h5 portable recorder.

Stereo recording of a steam train leaving moor street station in birmingham in the direction of snow hill station, going into a short tunnel as soon as the engine leaves the platform. 4-6-0 hall class locomotive pulling a train of vintage carriages. Steam hiss, guard's whistle clearing the driver to leave the platform, coal being shovelled into furnace, piston starts to move, speeds up, train whistle (brief), sound of the steam locomotive fades and carriage bogey noise. It's an all synthetized sound, created on audacity. I wanted to recreat a basic emergency alarm, which can be use for cops, firemen or ambulance. I started by creat a track, then i add chirps. After, i duplicated the track and make a stereo of both. After, i copy and stick multiples times my sound. After, i chossed to raise the speed of the track, twice. I also modified a little bit the height. Imagine a warm, damp-humid august evening in the midwest. It's about 8pm and you're in a mowed path which is 10 feet wide. On either side of you, are two fields of tall -- 9 feet --- corn standing like green, thick grassy sentinels. This is where i was when i recorded this hypnotic sound-scape on saturday night august 9th 2014. I made this recording with my marantz pmd661 (modified by oade brothers electronics)in stereo using twin, matched samson co2 microphones mounted on my tripod about 5 feet above the ground. My record volume was 6 1/2.

This is a short clip from an intense thunderstorm, recorded from my second story queens apartment from an open bathroom window during the early afternoon of july 15, 2015. Some traffic and airplanes can be heard in the background. This clip was recorded using an apple iphone 6 and the zoom iq6 x/y stereo microphone with a rode dead kitten windscreen at low volume, normalized later. This recording lasts until the battery on my iphone hit 5%, at which point the zoom handy recorder app automatically stopped.

The recording starts with gentle rain and slow thunder rolling across the sky. The thunder is predominantly in the first half of the recording. The rain increases in intensity in the second half, peaking about three-quarters of the way through. Recorded on a sheltered, outdoor stairway, in a suburban location in south-eastern england, in august 2013; using a zoom h2n recorder set on mid-side stereo, at a 120 degree spread. The original recording was heavily edited, to remove traffic, trains, planes and parakeets(!). Some light, occasional, background traffic noise remains, however.

A stark recording of a bunch of northwest winds whipping through a small town. This was recorded in december 17th 2013 during the height of the frenzy of the holiday season. I think that it why i enjoy this recording so much -- the lonely yet comforting desolate wind in contrast to the frenetic sensory overload that the holidays can sometimes be. Not just any thunder this! this is the spanish variety and anyone who has been around a spanish thunderstorm will know what i mean. This field recording was made from my villa and this is both rural and situated between two mountain ranges. So, you've got the thunder, the acoustics, the sound of the rain and the birds in the nearby trees. If you listen closely enough then you might hear the sound of the breeze through the palm trees. Recorded with twin directional mike pointing away from each other. . . For just about the best stereo separation you're going to get!.

A simple multi-sampled synthetic spacebass pack, containing 25 samples, derived from 2 octaves of a home made soft-synth patch. The original quality was 24 bits with a sample rate of 88. 2khz, which i converted with a very good src to 16 bits and 44. 1khz. Not that is was that important after all considering the fact that the patch itself has a grainy character in the higher frequencies. . . No compressing, equalizing whatsoever involved, the panning is pretty wide tho, with left and right sounding rather different, but in stereo it still feels pretty balanced i think.

A field recording made as i walked on the north side of bloor st w, near shaw street in toronto on the evening of 29 may 2011. This is a commercial strip with many ethiopian bar-restaurants, outside of which men gather to smoke and have conversation. You can hear some of these as we pass along bloor, as well as the conversations of other passers-by. These sounds are pretty typical of this section of bloor on a fine spring evening. An early morning recording made at 7:30am on sunday april 2nd, 2017 in a large field bordered by heavy woods. . . . Beyond the woods is a large lake and, with headphones on, you might be able to hear the sound of boats on the lake. It was sunny, but, a typical cold early spring day. Temp was 43 degrees with a slight breeze making it feel like 37. But, that did not stop the birds from putting on a chorus. This is an ambient recording of the late night crowd of kids at 14th street unions square nyc. It's where the market usually is during the day. There is some traffic present but it's mostly about the voices and energy of teens. You can hear the clack and roll of skate boards, voices and gritty near by footsteps. The file contains walla quality voices and up close stuff that you can understand. It is a tad left heavy so you may have to adjust if you are using it for stereo.

Rain in brittany on a windy winter day. I built this sound by mixing several field recordings made on the same spot: a small wood in the south of the region. These recordings had different focuses: some were more wind-oriented, others had more rain. . . I took my snare drum into the wonderfully echoey parking garage of my building to record the reverb. Included are samples recorded from varying distances and positions. Also included are dry versions, recorded in a living room and a super-dry elevator. When used in a production, try mixing in the heavily reverbed snares against the dry ones to fit your taste. The soundscape of a thunderstorm that passed over berlin in 2012, recorded from my backyard window with a little earplug stereo mic that a friend once made for me - a dummy head. The heavy rain was followed by thunder, then transforms into softer rain that lets you hear faint city sounds like cars, doors closing, someone using a screwdriver, voices, the bells of a nearby church, airplanes and birds. There's so much to hear, i couldn't stop recording. I only took out some little peaks caused by the movement of my ear.

Erm, i rolled a hard boiled egg around in a large ceramic fruit bowl. . . For a project. I used a stereo pair of fel 'clippy' mics and recorded onto a sounddevices mixpre-6. This audio is not a sound effect itself, however it can be used with an impulse response plugin to recreate the acoustics of a particular environment. This particular file is designed to replicate the acoustics of distant muffled club or rave. This was done using the "profiler stereo lsp plugin" and placing the microphones on the opposite corner of the speaker in a highly reverberous house forcing the audio to reverberate around a corner. After this, a low frequency boost was applied in post along with other general cleanup of the audio.

This is one of the very few canarian permanent waterfalls. It is located in los tilos forest, a biosphere reserve within las nieves natural park in la palma (canary islands, spain). It's about 25 meters tall and flows into a gorge covered by a thick laurel forest (laurisilva), a tropical ecosystem full of trees and ferns resembling jurassic park.
