This ambience is the lobby on the street level of a medical office building in honolulu, hawaii. You can hear people entering the doors and catching one of the elevators, a woman talking, and traffic passing by on the building's driveway. I recorded this with the built-in microphone of a lenovo laptop.

I recorded this on the london underground for an animated project that i'm working on. We boarded the train at bethnal green and travelled several stops until liverpool street. There are a few station announcements along the way. The train itself was moderately busy, but there was not much in the way of background chatter.

Midnight recording from the streets of neukölln, berlin, on new years day 2009. In germany, this is the one day of the year when members of the general public are allowed to set off fireworks. Echoes of bombs and fusillades ring out across the city, while clouds of smoke tumble menacingly through the streets. Close by, a peaceful child sets off sparklers, and is astonished by the display. In the morning, the streets are littered with their remnants -- charred bits of paper, streaks of red ash. Recorded with an edirol r-09. From a contemporaneous news report:. Where we live the fireworks laws are pretty lax so people go crazy with them. Here is a recording from the day before independence day (yesterday) as people were blowing up part of their arsenal ahead of time. In a few hours i will be recording as things get really crazy. Our neighbors on three sides will light off the thousands of dollars of fireworks that they have purchased. Many of them are illegal (purchased from indian reservations) so there will be some big booms. Back to this recording.
