An emulation of the classic "rewind and stop" sound performed by djs to add tension before the drop. Made after tens of trials using fl studio's fruity scratcher on a sample i don't remember. A continuous blank record groove running almost 22 minutes in length. This is from the unused backside of a 1961 test pressing made for a commercial release on the mgm record label. Nothing is looped or enhanced in any way. The final 28 seconds of the file is the stylus riding in the lock groove near the label. Stopped in a tiny museum in kansas and the curator turned on the 1900s edison photograph for me and let me record the classic humming, scratchy sound of a turntable turning. The steady rhythm had a very "bioshock infinite" feel to me, and i loved it. Nice to put under music to make it sound old. Recorded on my cellphone and cleaned up in audacity. Production-now. In an attempt to add warmth to my productions, i sampled some of the more distinctive sounds mostly from the lead-ins and lead-outs from dirty/scratched records. If shortened, they make for interesting _analog_ glitch noises.

Couldn't find any samurai champloo style scratches, so i made one myself ☺.

This is an old gramophone with a 78rpm vinyl-record. The sounds include the winding-up, the placement of the needle, crackle-noise and other surface sounds of the vinyl, lifted-up needle and the sound of the vinyl record-player stopping. Recorded in stereo on a zoom h4 handheld recorder.

I started recording a vinyl lp into my computer before realising that i hadn’t set the anti-skate properly and the needle was stuck in the lead-in groove. I trimmed this bit of snap crackle n’ pop and kept it in the hope that it might be useful for me or anyone else. Have fun.

Lead in groove of a 7" single @ 45 rpm. Recording chain:. Pro-ject primary turntable with an ortofon om 5e cartridge→ onkyo stereo amplifier→ behringer uca202 audio interface→ laptop using audacity. Notched out some motor noise and selectively eliminated or lessened some other noises for aesthetic reasons.

This is a classic hip-hop sound made by playing a snare forwards then backwards, with a hi-hat from the same sample played the same way for added effect. Drum sounds are from an old-school soul sounding drum break i found on soulseek. I created this in ableton.
