Messing around in logic with some surround impulse responses and delay designs. Ended up with something that sounded a bit like a submarine sonar blip. . So i added the sound of a fridge, time stretched using the flex tool and pitch adjusted and now it sounds almost real :).

Rubbing a nail directly on a contact mic. This could be suitable layered as a foley sound to serve in place for writing with a pencil, pen, or chalk. If necessary, eq out some top end if it's too metallic sounding or adjust for speed and pitch.

Interference is a interesting phenomenon. I blow a bass tone and add my own voice, first i adjust my voice to same wavelength as the instrument, then i change my voice linearily, and you can follow how you get a 3rd tone, which is either a+b or a-b.

I recorded the acoustic guitar with audacity, then added the fx with reaper. It is named 5pm because that was the time when i recorded it. In reaper i made 3 tracks of the same recording and added different fx to each one:track 1 contained reverb and flange with adjusted tempo. Track 2 contained a pitch delay doubler. This is static actually coming from my radio but its plugged into the same cord as my tv & they are very close together. So it's actually interference. Also the proximity of my phone gives more sound (ringy static). This is a sound i created by using three different things. I recorded my bathroom fan and altered the pitch, added a few cents and overlayed them at 50%, and added a band-pass filter. I also recorded batteries rolling across the bottom of a drawer, lowered the pitch a bit, and added a high pass filter. And then lastly i added some wind that i created by blowing into my hands. That i did not adjust at all. It sounds just like a thunderstorm.

So when i launched audacity within gentoo linux, a strange ground loop occurred. However, adjusting the volume settings within alsamixer caused the ground loop to become different per volume settings. This is an ambient recording of the late night crowd of kids at 14th street unions square nyc. It's where the market usually is during the day. There is some traffic present but it's mostly about the voices and energy of teens. You can hear the clack and roll of skate boards, voices and gritty near by footsteps. The file contains walla quality voices and up close stuff that you can understand. It is a tad left heavy so you may have to adjust if you are using it for stereo.

The sound of the bottom of a ceramic mug, dragged over the metal grating of a coffee machine. It sounds like a sword drawn from a scabbard. Recorded using a zoom h6 in the kitchen. Applied a filter to remove unwanted low and very high frequencies. Also corrected the volume level to adjust all four recordings to the exact same level. There are some minor distracting noises - i assume from my shirt while moving the mug over the surface. Also a fan is very faintly audible in the background. Lazer sound. I made this lazer sound with the use of operator in ableton as well as adding a few effects to help round it out. I started with a basic sine wave and then began to adjust the frequency range to cut out some of the low end of the sound and enhance the high end to make it more realistic and movie accurate. I also had to shorten the decay time so it is more of a short zap sound than a prolonged note. Another step was giving it an initial high pitched sound and this was achieved by having the sound start higher up the scale with semitones and then dropping down giving the effect of shooting and something traveling from the source sound.

I was experimentally, recording the garage door opener, but then this happened: next door neighbor kick-starts motorcycle, idles it, an aircraft passes by, and then the motorcyclist rides away. Recorded sound is indirect except for a brief moment when the motorcycle pulls past the open garage door in the alley outside. Set up with schoeps cmc6-uxt/ mk41+mk8 ms stereo in rycote zeppelin on tripod in small suburban single-car garage that faces an alley between lots. Ms-decoded and recorded as l+r channels on sound devices mixpre-6 @ 24/192. Some light post-processing to adjust levels as well as a little compression on the loudest moment.
