A mixer truck, freshly loaded is mixing (extremely dry) concrete in the drum as it spins on the frame of the truck! i held the mic to the exterior of the steel drum as it spun. So there are underlying cat engine noises in the background. The concrete is so dry, its load enough to over power the majority of engine sounds.

Kittens: the screeching of 3 week old kittens is very distinct. Real kittens can be heard here. It is high-pitched and a “close-up” of these sounds coming from these tiny creatures. I have a 800 watt sub which i can only use when cats and wife aren't in the house.

I just pitch up my voice where it's at a comfortable level and not at the highest peak in pitch. I slowly ease into the vocal sound to avoid any vocal damage. While i'm easing in there's a very quiet high pitch whistle coming from the back of my throat, too quiet for the microphone. Channeling the /dev/sda1 hard drive partition into a file. At last i've imported the raw file properly as the 8-bit unsigned linear pcm. This is 8bit mono 44100 hz windows wave. Lots of strange digital sounds. Quite useful for noise and experimental musicians. Interesting that if we just do cat /dev/sda1 > /dev/dsp we hear different sound more like modem 56k. This was originally a friend's cat meowing but it has been processed heavily. First, it was put through a granulizer and the pitch was dropped -2 octaves. The sample was then panned l-r using automation, and bitcrushed. Lastly, to get a slight detuned feel, i added a chorus effect. This sample sounds even better with some convolution or hall reverb but i left this effect out since it's usually a effect users want total control over. The end result is a strange, alien sounding noise.

I have been hearing an animal or two beneath my bathtub for some time now. Today i discovered who it was. Leaving my apartment building this afternoon, i saw a cat sized racoon carrying her baby under the walkway. I went back inside and set up a microphone aimed at the floor by my bathtub. Methodology: shure sm58 into focusrite and recorded via ableton. Noise removed in audacity. I have a horrendous ground loop situation. In the future i may try to mic from below the apartment so that it isn't so muffled by the floor. Some noise comes from how much i had to amplify the signal to make it heard.

Hail comes inthis was a strange storm. Tons of lightning, but only distant thunder. The rain was nearly falling vertically. Audio description: may 20, 2014. Hail comes in and pounds a deck outside for about a minute or so, then fades and raindrops themselves take prominence. The wind picks up, so you can hear wind chimes going at it and some deep rolling thunder far in the background. If you’ve experienced high winds before, it will probably sound scary to you at volume. Recorded with a tascam dr-05 with a dead cat and no low cut. I got the mics as close to an open window as i could without being ridiculous. Cropped and faded in and out in audacity. No other modifications, so you’ll have to normalize it and equalize to your liking. Might be useful as a “heavy rain” sound, since the hail kind of sounds like that anyway.

This sounds as if it were staged by hollywood, but it actually did happen, i swear! birds chirp away to set the scene, but a beefy thunder roll intrudes. Soon after, raindrops begin to fall as if on cue. Theres a little handling noise click in the begining that is easy to crop out if you like. The recording is unedited. At 1:35 i move the mics closer to the deck so you can hear the splashing. At about at 3:10 i you’ll hear a different timbre as i move away from the rain and under an awning. About 3:45 the rain settles down and the birds start chirping again. Hopefully there are some useful segments in here. Recorded with a dead cat on a tascam dr-05 at 48khz 24 bit, then compressed with “lame --preset insane --scale 10” to make up for the low gain i used (i was afraid a thunderclap would engage the limiter).
