I asked for a fabric shredder because i couldn't find one, and i knew my dearest would knock himself out trying to. He didn't either but he did have one made, probably at considerable expense. It's a cute little portable unit, i think made of a modified paper(?) shredder, powered by a geared motor from a battery-operated power tool. It's probably a dangerous little work of art. So we're getting dressed in the bedroom after opening gifts on christmas morning, and i decided to try out my new toy. Good conversation, mechanical whir.

The morning after christmas 2022 on hood canal. There was a king tide that came up over the stone wall. A king tide occurs when the sun, moon, and earth are in alignment and the combined gravitational pull causes water levels to rise dramatically. I took this recording right next to the pilings where the dock is connected. You can hear the water hitting the metal and wood as it knocks it around. The water eventually washed over the road.

A la Nanita Nana, is an eighteenth-century Spanish Christmas carol here performed by the chorus of U.S. Army Band "Pershing's Own", led by Colonel Thomas Rotondi, Jr. (Leader & Commander) and CSM Debra L. McGarity (Command Sergeant Major) c. 2010. It is done bilingually, first in Spanish, then in English. The English translation appears to have been done in house by the Army, as I can find no evidence of any other usage. CSM Debra L. McGarity Modifications Levels adjustment - a basic linear tweak, with the lower notes being slightly quieter and the higher notes slightly louder. Also removed a slight tapping noise in the beginning, before the singing starts.

This is a simple recording of the passing crowd in the heart of the latin quarter of paris, france, on a wednesday evening between christmas and new year's eve. The recording was made at the corner of the pedestrian xavier privas and huchette streets, with the mics aimed diagonally across the street, about 4. 5 feet above ground. By a happy coincidence (i'd like to say that i engineered it, but i didn't), this sound file loops seamlessly. The clip includes the sounds of many people passing by (the area was very crowded), and some snippets of conversation, mostly in french, with a few other languages thrown in. Some faint traffic noise can be heard on the left, from the busy quai saint michel street along the south bank of the seine river, at the north end of the xavier privas street (left of the mics in this recording). Recorded with a hand-held zoom h4n, stereo, 96 khz / 24 bits, built-in mics.

This is a mix of deep boom sounds i mixed together. Probably like 30 or more sounds to get just what i wanted, even my own voice mixed in there somewhere. Figured others might find this useful. Might as well say what i used this for. So in making a big huge video for my family, where i've filmed them doing certain things and not tell them why, to which i'll present the video when we all get together for christmas eve, 2019. Theres also a part where i hosted a picnic, filmed everyone, and then asked them to karate chop or kick towards the camera. The next day i went with a crew and filmed ninjas around the park. Edited together with the family attacking the ninjas then the ninjas falling back and exploding with a particle effect on after effects. This is the main sound heard when that happens. I made a few others using this base sound. While i'm bad myself at leaving comments, comments are always welcome to hear what someone used the sound for. Thanks.

Hark! The Herald Angels Sing is an English Christmas carol which first appears in its modern form in 1850. The original lyrics are adapted from Charles Wesley's 1739 hymn ""Hark! how all the welkin rings", set it to the same tune as Christ the Lord is Risen Today. George Whitefield altered the opening lyrics to the more familiar "Hark! The Herald Angels Sing", and various others also made small alterations in the following years. In the early 1840s, Felix Mendelssohn wrote "Festgesang", a cantata in celebration of the presumed 400 year anniversary of Johannes Gutenberg's invention of the printing press. The tune to the second part of this piece, "Vaterland, in deinen Gauen", was adapted to fit the revised Wesley lyrics in 1855 by William H. Cummings, assembling the hymn tune into its more-or-less final form. In front of my desk in my room is a wood paneled wall with a cubbie. It's about a foot wide, 10 inches from top to bottom and maybe 7 inches deep. I'm just guessing. Around this cubbie is a border of wood. In the bottom right corner under the border i have jammed one end of an elastic string that used to have glitter on it. It's from a christmas box of chocolates my uncle sent me last year. I stand in front of this cubbie whose bottom is at chin height, (i'm only 5ft1in) so my arms are above my head as i pull this string across the cubbie up and to the left to the border on the top which acts as my only fret. The string is a few inches longer than the cubbie is wide, but when i pull it it gets longer so my hand is 3/4 along it's length as i pull back and forth across the border to tighten and loosen the string. No matter how hard i pull it never pops loose from it's mooring. This time the mic is sitting in the cubby so i get a much clearer and louder sound. When i stretch the string across the top it has a fairly long sustain, so i can play 4 notes on a single pluck.

In the first part until 01:54 i am playing the string at maybe 30° from horizontal. It has a buzzy quality that reminds me of an african folk instrument i can't remember the name of. From 01:33 to 01:54 i'm trying to imitate a korean folk vibrato kind of thing. In the second part until 02:29 i am playing 45 to 60° from horizontal and it sounds like a full-bodied string bass with no buzz. In the last part beginning at 02:34 i am playing about 75° from horizontal across the top border of the cubbie on the left so it sounds buzzy and african again, and i'm just going crazy goofing around with a crazy bluesy rock sort of rhythm. There didn't seem to be any homemade 1-stringed wall-cubbie basses on this site so here is mine, have fun. I don't play it if mom is home because the living room is on the other side of the wall and she can't hear tv. Also my neighbor can probably hear it in the next apartment lol.
