I'm friendly with the clerks at my local 7-11 convenience store in studio city, so i asked if i could leave my mic on the back counter for a few minutes. Interesting door bell when customers come and go, as well as the sound of babies crying, etc. Recorded with: sanken cs-1e, fostex fr2le.

Over 5 minutes of background noise from a well-known new york city diner, including people talking, clanging plates and glasses and forks and knives and cups being cleared away by staff, and in the second half of the clip, radio ads playing faintly in the background. But crucially, no music is playing. This means you can either use this clean, or layer in your own rights-cleared music if you're using this in a film or whatever. I was looking for a sound that fitted a dance studio/recording studio reception area so i mixed a few sounds together and came up with this. It has traffic sounds, various bird sounds, indistinct chatter, a thumping bass in the background like in a room on the floor above and a harmony group practising somewhere else in the building. Could be useful for a radio play, movie scene or theatre play.

Kyoto city had heavy snow fall on that day, and no cars wore special tires for winter. Since the taxi wouldn't start, the following car couldn't help honking. This is a recording made just outside my window. A helicopter flew over just a minute later, twice! i used a cheap large diaphragm condensor mic, with a plastic bendable tube around it, pointing just outside of my window. This created a cool midrangy-resonant-combfilter kind of sound. Gear used: cheap ldc -> m-audio dmp3 -> terratec ewx2496. This is for the earthfirewindwater contest. I mounted the mic inside and on top of the car and drove trough the city, recording some ambulance, traffic, and a scooter that was tooting, later i turned of engine, opened and closed the car door and startet the engine, maybe you find it useful, let me know :). This was a no-service subway stop so the doors did not open and there is no passenger noise. The audio travels from one side to the other as the metro passes because of the stereo mics.
