This is the recording of an audible pedestrians traffic light in paris, france. These devices are here to help visually impaired people cross the streets in a safe way. They come under the form of a little beige box with a hidden button underneath. You have to push the button to hear the annoucement. You can find them all over the city. The sequence goes as follows: first, an annoucement in french says "red light for pedestrians", followed by the street name, then a jingle goes on, followed by a series of bell-like sounds, signaling a green light. This is a simple recording of the passing crowd in the heart of the latin quarter of paris, france, on a wednesday evening between christmas and new year's eve. The recording was made at the corner of the pedestrian xavier privas and huchette streets, with the mics aimed diagonally across the street, about 4. 5 feet above ground. By a happy coincidence (i'd like to say that i engineered it, but i didn't), this sound file loops seamlessly. The clip includes the sounds of many people passing by (the area was very crowded), and some snippets of conversation, mostly in french, with a few other languages thrown in. Some faint traffic noise can be heard on the left, from the busy quai saint michel street along the south bank of the seine river, at the north end of the xavier privas street (left of the mics in this recording). This is taken from (and an answer to) mxsmanic's "trip on métro line 9 in paris, france", at 2:20 exactly: metro on rails through the tunnel, which resonance creates this sound (very familiar to me as i live here). Interesting to notice that the sound's frequency stays around 483hz, which was (in the ancient solfeggio frequency science attributed to pythagoras) the frequency of "opening consciousness".

Recorded this on a sunny evening at the cote d'azur, near toulon. Two iphones approx 4 meteres apart (it was all that i had). Syncronized and merged to a stereo-wave in reaper. The moderate waves move the stones of the beach and create an awesome sound. It was practically windstill, so i did not use a lowcut. Enjoy and tell me if you use it! that would be awesome.

This is simportant because it gives this particular train a distinctive acoustical fingerprint: you can hear engine bursts (a bit like a bus hitting the gas) no electrical train does that. . . This is a recording of children playing in the large playground at the luxembourg gardens in paris, france. The recording was made from the east side of the playground, next to an attraction that allows kids to hang from a sort of harness and slide down a rail. The metallic clink you hear periodically is the sound of the runners on this gadget banging into each other as kids jump off of them.
