Several years back my older brother stumbled upon a bunch of old family reel to reel films and sat down one evening to project them on a wall and digitize them. This is the sound of that process. What you can hear, i imagine, is the noise of the projector in the left channel and the sound of the reels in the right channel. I've been obsessed with the sounds of the infinite variation in old analog hardware. As a sound designer, that infinite variation is often sought after but rarely, or accurately, reproduced through digital files in various libraries. Of if they are, they're often too short to cover whatever scene i am trying to fill. On the surface it's just noise but if you listen closer it's this wonderful cacophony of overlapping and repeating sounds that are always looping but never quite identical on each rotation. It was ripped from youtube using audio hijack at 48khz/16bit, but due to youtube re-encoding things as youtube does, it's nowhere near the source. It's still, in my opinion, a sound worth sharing. . A very mellow and ambient music loop. Completely seamless. It has a horrid start because of the whole seamless loop stuff, please read further down. . . The piano piece is one of orangefreesounds' many beautiful looping piano melodies. I added some effects and an ambient mellotron using the free, but stunning redtron se vst instrument, which uses recorded samples of a real mellotron. Highly recommended if you are looking for an authentic mellotron sound. . . Please excuse the rough start, the reason why it sounds so weird is because it is a prefect loop, that means that everything, including all the effects, loops perfectly. What you hear in the very start is the reverb and delay effects from the end carrying over to the start. It will sound completely seamless once looped!. . It might not sound good as a preview, so i recommend to download and listen to it on your own device, as the website has a bad habit of compressing and adding a bunch of annoying squeaking sounds to the audio. .

I found this old c-60 cassette labelled "xx" in a local thrift store. (i like to collect found sound recordings-- sometimes there's some pretty weird stuff!) well, it turns out i found some guy's old tape recording involving him having sex while blasting some awful anne murray cover album. . . The recording is the post-sex dialogue, right after that final song fades out. . . At the end, the woman asks something like "are you going to get your tape recorder?" and the guy seems to become flustered, saying something like "i wasn't recording, it's off!" (i'm paraphrasing. ) i guess he thought she realised he was recording it or something. Anyways, after this, the recording is cut off. You can also hear a toilet flush, and some sort of "squeaky toy" noise during the recording. Recorded direct to soundcard, playing back the tape on a cheap hand-held cassette player. Edited w/ compression to reduce peaking.

This time i promised my self to make my cuts more musical, you guys know, good outside (or) inside recording can be esthetic in many ways. When you walk around and listen carefully, you can hear music everywhere. When i got home i began chopping, an then i realized i could turn this mini recording session into some cool loops as well. I think its a good way of practicing sound design(or anything musically), to just limit your self some times. Basically got the idea when i was studying musique concréte. (concrete music). Could upload the samples if some one is interested?. I used no effects at all, no panning (stereo recordings) or no limiters/compressors. Some of the recording where made by using binaural microphones. I recorded everything with my zoom h4.

In front of my desk in my room is a wood paneled wall with a cubbie. It's about a foot wide, 10 inches from top to bottom and maybe 7 inches deep. I'm just guessing. Around this cubbie is a border of wood. In the bottom right corner under the border i have jammed one end of an elastic string that used to have glitter on it. It's from a christmas box of chocolates my uncle sent me last year. I stand in front of this cubbie whose bottom is at chin height, (i'm only 5ft1in) so my arms are above my head as i pull this string across the cubbie to the border on the left which acts as my only fret. The string is a few inches longer than the cubbie is wide, but when i pull it it gets longer so my hand is 3/4 along it's length as i pull back and forth across the border to tighten and loosen the string. No matter how hard i pull it never pops loose from it's mooring. The recording starts with me standing up from my chair. In the first part until 01:54 i am playing the string at maybe 30° from horizontal. It has a buzzy quality that reminds me of an african folk instrument i can't remember the name of. From 01:33 to 01:54 i'm trying to imitate a korean folk vibrato kind of thing. In the second part until 02:29 i am playing 45 to 60° from horizontal and it sounds like a full-bodied string bass with no buzz. In the last part beginning at 02:34 i am playing about 75° from horizontal across the top border of the cubbie on the left so it sounds buzzy and african again, and i'm just going crazy goofing around with a crazy bluesy rock sort of rhythm. There didn't seem to be any homemade 1-stringed wall-cubbie basses on this site so here is mine, have fun. I don't play it if mom is home because the living room is on the other side of the wall and she can't hear tv. Also my neighbor can probably hear it in the next apartment lol. Both the temperature and humidity were nicely lower than usual and this soundscape was recorded featuring the beautiful northern breezes and a few of the birds that still live here. Since this ambience was recorded during the work-week, there are hardly any man-made internal combustion engine noises. Just the wind lifting and swirling through the tired forest and the blue jays, crows and insects. Recording made at 2:30pm on september 13 2022. This is a sound of a mercedes benz 709d mini bus driving on a really hard icy road. It was a rattly old bus, everything squeaked and rumbled on it. I videoed this journey with my canon powershot a460 digital camera, i simply took the sound from the video. It's a good sound, it turned out well thanks to the winter weather, and the rough icy road. This recording was done on a balmy day in early november at the shore of a small lake in southern illinois. Even though it was november, i was in a short-sleeve t-shirt, because of the warm weather that we had been having. However, there was a huge, approaching mass of cold air from canada approaching which resulted in some tremendous, steady winds, gusting up to 40 miles an hour. I literally had my zoom h4n recorder sitting in some sedge-type grasses inches from the lake, which enabled me to get the clear, crisp sound of the wind-driven wages breaking over the small rocks and sticks. Occasionally you will hear a dull roar of the wind, which i was able to decrease a bit using my graphic equalizer, although as you listen to the entire piece you will notice that i just could not eliminate all of the “wind roar”,. Still, i think this is an effective, realistic sound-record of what happens when cold air hits head on with warm air over a lake. Again, this was recorded using the zoom h4n digital audio recorder, using the built-in stereo microphones. Enjoy.

In these recordings i am only using the swarmandal (harp) part. It is tuned to c sharp, but i have dropped the fourth note (f sharp) out of the scale. There are four packs with lots of recordings in them, strums, plucks, short improvisations. "short melodic statements" are 1-2 bars. "riffs" are 2-4 bars. This is a mix of deep boom sounds i mixed together. Probably like 30 or more sounds to get just what i wanted, even my own voice mixed in there somewhere. Figured others might find this useful. This is the version which is pitched even lower then the normal one i made. Might as well say what i used this for. So in making a big huge video for my family, where i've filmed them doing certain things and not tell them why, to which i'll present the video when we all get together for christmas eve, 2019. Theres also a part where i hosted a picnic, filmed everyone, and then asked them to karate chop or kick towards the camera. The next day i went with a crew and filmed ninjas around the park. Edited together with the family attacking the ninjas then the ninjas falling back and exploding with a particle effect on after effects. This is an edited version from the main sound heard when that happens. I made a few others using the base sound. Created for an upcoming film, this is the audio from a nightmare a character in the film has about the terrible 1966 aberfan, wales disaster. He sees himself in a hallway at pantglas school then hears the coal tip land slide coming, then sees it crash through a distant wall and come rushing at him. This was a very difficult piece of sound design to construct because of my emotions about the disaster and how the national coal board responded: 500 pounds sterling maximum to each grieving parent for each dead child, and with questions such as, "how close were you to your child?" if the answer was somehow not close enough for the panel, no money was awarded. The film scene will be handled with taste and respect, and no dead children will be depicted.

This is the latest homework i have done, for this one i imagined this:its as if you were hearing from the ears of the person in the cashier spot, at a busy restaurant, this person gets caught in a time wrap and they start to like trip on these sounds from the kitchen, the stage across the bar, and even them turning a page on their boring magazine. Let me set the scene for this audio because i am a nerd. . . Burbank, california. A large apartment/condominium complex with an open courtyard and a swimming pool and hot tub. Now, for some reason in la, nobody ever seems to actually use pools or hot tubs anymore so it's not hard to get clean audio. So, from beginning to end you will basically hear me turn the automatic shutoff dial on the wall, walk to the hot tub, get in the hot tub, and sit in various positions for extended periods of time. It's recording of a passenger train's on duty. You can hear the train's motors, the wheels rumbling against the rails, the wagon connectors hitting each other, when the train stops also people chatting. Near the end of the recording the room acoustics change, because a woman entered the area between wagons where i was standing with my recorded pointed down. I was standing in a narrow passage, where two wagons were joined, between two closed slide-doors. She have opened those so the overall sound has radically changed and i decided to end the recording. Through the entire recording the unit is moving forward, decelerating, stopping, staring and accelerating again repeatedly as it travels stopping at several stations. The recording was done with a hand-held zoom h2. Rear mics used pointed to the ground. I was in the loudest area in the whole train. I was using "low" gain (h2 has three mic gain levels to choose from: l/m/h). Viewed and converted to flac using audacity, the file hasn't been altered in any other way. Originally recorded as a 96khz/24-bit stereo wav file.

. . Inside an intercity express (ice) between stuttgart and mannheim, sitting in an almost empty (three passengers) second-class broad-spaced compartment at around 9 pm. After a shaky first minute an even part follows for around 90 seconds. Interrupted by some road holes the steady sound continues, now with the frequency of the engine sound rising until the beginning of the fourth minute. Here the "main part" begins, starting with several moments of acceleration, deceleracion and breaking. From minute 5:15 to 7:35 the train reaches it's peak velocity, with only few bumps. After a short deceleration the train inceases velocity again, reaching a second peak, this time noticeably bumpier. Once in a while you can hear some element of the fitments rattling nervously along the track, depending on the constitution of the railways and the overall situation. During the last two minutes the train keeps on decelerating slowly and continuously until the end. Recorded in stereo with a portable stereo recorder (zoom); enhanced in audacity using a parallel dynamic eq (tdr nova), a compressor (vos density mkiii) and a binaural spacializer (auburn panagement).

I videoed this sound of a subway train in glasgow scotland on the famous "clockwork orange" train as they are called. I used my canon powershot a460 digital camera to video this, i simply took the sound from the video. I was lucky enough to get a good run on this with just a few poeple on board, so there wasn't any other sound apart from the train, the only time you here some movement of feet is when the doors open. Quite simply a recording of me screaming in a humorous way (if you're looking for a scream sound effect for a project with a serious tone, i doubt this one will be suitable). Even though i'm a woman, i have a feeling this sound could be used for a male character too, probably one with a voice that's not too deep. I recorded this by mistake when i was just 14! me and my sister had just been recording something on my mp3 player, then when we'd finished, i accidentally pressed record again. I don't know why, but i responded by doing a silly scream before pressing the button to stop recording! weird reaction, i know. I was probably just trying to make her laugh. I kept the very short recording ever since and in more recent years, i showed it to a friend who found it absolutely hilarious! i realised this was a such a gem of a scream that i simply had to upload it as my first ever contribution to this wonderful site i've been using for years!. I've edited out one second of silence that preceded the scream in the original version of the file. Although it's not essential because i'm releasing this into the public domain, i'd love to hear in the comments about what you use this sound for :).

Where we live the fireworks laws are pretty lax so people go crazy with them. Here is a recording from the day before independence day (yesterday) as people were blowing up part of their arsenal ahead of time. In a few hours i will be recording as things get really crazy. Our neighbors on three sides will light off the thousands of dollars of fireworks that they have purchased. We went to my friend's father to record a koto, a traditional japanese zither-like (table harp) instrument, consisting of a large wooden base with long strings for plucking. The strings are tuned in the japanese pentatonic scale, allowing a mystic, mysterious, beautiful harmony. It was my first time ever playing this instrument, so don't expect wonders lol. But i tried to "feel" the instrument as well as i could, working from my limited keyboard and guitar playing skills. Most of the background is the insects, which are very obvious during this time of year. The swelling of their volume is nap-inducing (*at least to me in my opinion. )here is the midwest this swelling and subsiding of the insect wave tells me that summer is just about starting to go back downhill, after a feverish peak. Despite the covid-19 of the year, nature does not seem to have changed her soundscape. Life goes on in the forests. The birds, whose job of raising young is over, are still there. . . They're just resting and relaxing and listening to the insects as well i'm sure. Inside the train my recording equipment (soundman digital recorder dr2) generates a lot of digital noise – more than usual. Interesting. Therefore i upload from when the commuter train stops at gothenburg central station and the doors open and i walk away from the station. The digital noise is there all the time but just less audible. In the beginning of the sound file you hear the noise clearly. Don’t buy this little recorder… (it has a sigmatel recording chip. ). In the frequency analysis, and spectral view, i notice peaks at about 800 - 950hz, 7850 - 8350hz and 16100-16450hz. I guess this is part of the digital noise. A recording of the peaceful mid-autumn woods here in the midwest usa. I recorded this on november 15 2022 using a sony pcm d-100. In the northern hemisphere now, days now are much shorter, and much colder. Which means all of our energetic summer warblers and other migrants have long gone south, and are no doubt lounging around in a palm tree or something just gorging on insects. Here is the midwest woods? sure the summer birds are gone, but, the beauty of this season is that now you can hear the birds that never leave us. No matter how brutal the winter is, the blue jays, the black-capped chickadees, the many species of woodpeckers and the belted kingfishers never leave. This creates a different, but beautiful soundscape in the woods. For this particular recording, since i've found through years of roaming the woods, birds have a tendancy to be near water, i placed the recorder on a creekbank about 15 feet from a shallow creek. Now of course i could have gotten closer to the creek but by now the entire woods is a carpet of leaves -- this very slow-moving creek included. Which means the leaves had accumulated on thevery still creek water itself and i was concerned if i stepped on the leaves--thinking it was solid ground underneath, i would instead be "treated" to an ice cold pair of shoes and socks!. 88 piano keys, long natural reverb: up to 13 seconds per note. This is me giving back. I love freesound. You guys saved my bacon back in the day. Recently i searched for free piano notes for a game i'm making, but the only ones i could find ended too quickly. I need long reverb! luckily i have an old piano, so i made my own. So this is me giving back. This is an old piano!!!. We had the piano tuned a year ago, but it is well over 60 years old, so be warned! these notes have character! if you want perfect tone, either edit them individually, generate something artificially, or buy a professional set. But if you want a piano with personality, this is for you. Being an old piano, it only has 85 keys. So i created the highest 3 notes by speeding up previous notes, to make the modern standard 88 keys. How the notes were created. The notes are created on an old (well over 50 years) steinhoff upright piano. It only has 85 keys, so i faked the highest 3 keys by taking previous keys and changing their pitch. I opened the top, balanced my trusty everesta bm-800 condenser microphone across the top near the high note end, and held down the "loud" pedal. Each note was then hit and kept pressed down until i could no longer hear any reverb. Notes were saved as mp3 using my laptop, using free sound recorder on the highest quality settings. Yeah, i know it isn't flac, but i am strictly amateur with budget to match, and that was the best i could do. After that, all editing was of course uncomopressed until the final save. How the notes were edited. Editing was kept to a minimum, mainly to enhance the reverberation. All editing took place on audacity on linux mint. First i cropped any silence from the start. Next, used the envelope function to gradually increae volume to 200% over a couple of seconds. That is, the quietest part of the reverb is twice as loud as you might expect. Because for my game i sometimes need a single piano key to last ten seconds. Next i maximised the volume. If there was just a single stray waveform that stuck out then i reduced that by 2db or so then maximised again. Because like i said, i want to hear that reverb! i then found the part where background noise starts to be noticeable, and faded out over 1 second or so. This meant that the lowest notes had as much as 13 seconds of reverb, whereas the highest notes might only have 2 or so. Finally i checked the result, and edited three or four notes that i felt were just too ugly (badly tuned, or for some reason the software suddenly got hissy when the note became too quiet. Weird. ) i also slightly changed the pitch of a couple of notes that were slightly out of tune but otherwise ok. No doubt a better ear than mine could teak all of the notes. But as i said, it's an old piano and we're keeping it real. Finally, files were compressed to ogg at the highest quality setting, using soundkonverter. Why not flac?. I live in the countryside with very slow broadband, so i apologise for including more of the original files. But as it was, uploading this zip file took about an hour. Enjoy. Legal. And nobody will know your distant machine gun sound was a civilian stun gun except for us semi colon right parenthesis. Ok, i don't know how many of you might be interested in this, but i figure there's no harm in posting it. I'm working on some original songs. Laptop-based, electronic songs, with many orchestral parts, including violin, viola, cello, and string bass. Presonus studio one has some very nice vst string instruments, and i have some really great ones for kontakt. But they all are missing one thing, and i couldn't find the (admittedly esoteric) sound that i'm looking for anywhere on the internet. Being a viola player myself, i recorded myself playing these very particular incidental sounds. Let me explain-. There's this 'grabby' sound that a well-rosined bow makes just is it is first being drawn across the string. Listen carefully to any of the pros and you'll hear it. In your laptop sequences, if used subtly, right at the point where the first note of a phrase is initiated, this sound can give the string part a marked sense of realism*. This, combined with vibrato, reverb and a nice warm/tube/tape saturation setting, nobody will be able to tell the difference between your vst and the real thing. About the audio-i tried to keep them as pitchless as possible, thus not limiting their utility. I recorded two sets of all four open strings (c, g, d, a), first close mic'ed, and once from a few feet away, in stereo. Or to say it another way, the sounds are as follows-1. Open c close2. It is one of the largest shifting sand areas in western europe. The wind can blow undisturbed in many places, resulting in an ever-changing landscape. By purchasing it in 1921, it has been protected for 100 years and we can still enjoy this brabant sahara today. You can roam freely on the sand plain. So there is plenty of room to explore extensively. Marvel at the submerged trees, enjoy the chirping field crickets and quench your thirst at one of the many cafes or restaurants on the edge of this nature reserve. Walking, cycling or on horseback: it's all possible here. With the wind in your hair and the sand in your shoes. You may even come across the sheep herd. The sheep keep the heath short and eat away saplings. This is how they keep the area open. The loonse en drunense duinen still has 270 hectares of shifting sand. That sand creates rather extreme conditions: the soil is dry and nutrient-poor. The difference in temperature between day and night can be as much as 50 degrees celsius. This ensures a unique flora and fauna. The animals and plants have adapted or feel at home in drought, aridity and temperature fluctuations. Sand sedge and various lichens, for example. What i hear in this sound is a crashing starship as you regain consciousness surrounded by chaos of the crew and emergency systems.
