I left my zoom h4n on a table under a roof on the back yard paving to capture a massive thunderstorm. Lots of rain. Lots of thunder. It starts in the distance and then comes over the house - a big storm. Some door noises at the start and some bird noises and a car driving by and a bus in there as well. Honestly, this is one of the coolest things ever. Just drag this impulse response into your ir reverb plugin and it will make everything sound like it's in a space suit / glass helmet.
