This is one of the original tubular bells used by mike oldfield, possibly for the 1999 tour. Note: this bell is only a dummy bell. It was stuffed with foam and fitted with a transducer to trigger a sample. I took the foam out and gave it a thwack! great fun but it sounds absolutely terrible in my opinion.

The sounds of solway's scrap yard on toronto's ernest avenue. It is an old industrial neighbourhood, rapidly gentrifying. The gentrifiers resent the scrapyard, but it was there first. You can hear the sounds of a mobile crane on caterpillar tracks dumping scrap into semi-trailers which will soon pull out for the steel mills of hamilton. As the trucks are loaded, the drivers chat in the background. Recorded with a roland r05 and a sennheiser mke 400 stereo mike with home-made wind screen on 30 september 2011.

This field recording was made from my villa and this is both rural and situated between two mountain ranges. So, you've got the thunder, the acoustics, the sound of the rain and the birds in the nearby trees. If you listen closely enough then you might hear the sound of the breeze through the palm trees. Afternoon rain, a light rain or drizzle. Recorded with my desktop computer, anhp pavillion with vista and realtek audio. Standard microphone. Since the rain wasnot blowing in the door, i could hangthe mike out the door. Audacity was myplatform, with very little processing. This version was recorded with the default amplitude at o db. There is a little thunder now and then,and birds chirping outside, mostlycatbirds or mockingbirds. At one pointone of my neighbors was outside talking,the conversation is not distinguishable. This recording is just over 37 minutes. Since there was almost no wind or breeze, the rain is easy to hear. Thatis when it falls on the sidewalk.

A reel by scanner, aka robin rimbaud. Formatted for use in the make noise morphagene. "a mixture of abstract melodic ambient and strange processed radio stuff and ‘scanner’ style sounds which should be fun. Keeping in mind that i want people to be able to use them as easily as possible and inspired. ". Scanner (british artist robin rimbaud) traverses the experimental terrain between sound and space connecting a bewilderingly diverse array of genres. Since 1991 he has been intensely active in sonic art, producing concerts, installations and recordings, the albums mass observation (1994), delivery (1997), and the garden is full of metal (1998) hailed by critics as innovative and inspirational works of contemporary electronic music. To date he has scored 65 contemporary dance productions, including works for the london royal ballet and merce cunningham in nyc. In 2016 he installed his water drops sound work in rijeka airport in croatia, ghosts at cliveden national trust uk, and scored the world’s first ever virtual reality ballet, nightfall. He scored the hit musical comedy kirikou & karaba (2007) and narnia ballet (2015) based on the popular children’s book, philips wake-up light (2009), the re-opening of the stedelijk museum, amsterdam in 2012 and in 2018 released an app that measures the quality of soil in europe with live data with artist kasia molga. His work salles des departs is permanently installed in a working morgue in paris whilst vex house, the residential house he designed a permanent soundtrack with chance de silva architects, won the riba london award 2018. Committed to working with cutting edge practitioners he collaborated with bryan ferry, wayne macgregor, mike kelley, torres, michael nyman, steve mcqueen, laurie anderson, and hussein chalayan, amongst many others. Bell tower of the basilica of the national shrine of the immaculate conception. Recorded on the catholic university of america campus with a zoom h2 in four channel surround mode. The front mikes faced the basilica. The rear mikes were fairly close to a building and captured an off axis recording of the original peals while the reflection off the building was on axis and is louder than the original peal. The two files can be combined for a surround image.
