The exciting thing about recording and cataloging natural sounds is how you get nice, unexpected surprises. I was up early recently one spring day and did not have any real plans to record, until i stepped outside with my coffee to see what the weather was like and was nicely surprised with the light, steady spring rain that was falling in my yard; during the whole time this energetic carolina wren kept on singing through the rain. I rain, got my recorder and recorded a full hour of this peaceful pattering. You hear the drops hitting the concrete patio, the shingled overhang and a plastic chair. Zoom h4n recorder using the stereo built-in mics.

Single note sampled from a deckard's dream diy analogue synthesizer that i built myself. Deckard's dream (ddrm) is an 8-voice analogue synthesizer designed by black corporation and inspired in the classic yamaha cs-80. The ddrm (and cs-80) is all about live performance and expressiveness via aftertouch and modulations. Therefore, sampling the notes like i did here does not make much sense and by no means makes justice to the real thing. Nevertheless, i thought it could still be useful and would be nice to share. Synthesizer: deckard's dream (ddrm)factory preset #: 14note: c-1midi note: 0midi velocity: 16.

1 looping envelope and 2 vclfos in a dance (chain connected). I think its harder for this combination to find a nice pattern - equilibrium. It happens sometimes. Maybe the mixture between positive and negative cv confuses the modules. Makes it harder. I start the recording with one of the vclfos in vco-mode. After about 17 sec i swith to lfo-mode. Records and hope that a pattern should emerge. I have been listening, and looking at the wave form, in different modes, but i'm not sure if there is a pattern in this recording. . . Maybe to advanced for me. There is - some -sort of pattern repeating every 22 sec. Or?.

In this patch i’m using doepfer a-160 clock divider as a sub bas generator. Square wave out from doepfer a-110 to trig in on a-160. I guess a square wave makes it easier for a-160? /4, in this patch, out to uvcf. The sawtooth from a-110 to another nice filter - the wasp filter. The transient modules 8s sequencer gives us an 8 note sequence. A copy of the sawtooth melody is going to an analog delay stomp box from joyo and back to the synth. This is a sample from the plug on the bottom of a shaving cream can getting pulled out and the resulting release of air pressure and shaving cream. If you're good enough at editing, you can make this into an explosion, a weapon, a hydraulic release, or some sort of gloopy lava bubbling sound, or anything else you can create with this. Feel free to use and edit this raw sample however you please. Credit would be nice but is not required. Frogs. So many frogs around sundown on a forest trail in vancouver, canada. Got in real close to record this with my phone. Slap a bunch of reverb on this clip and you've got some nice nighttime ambience for a film. A recording i made in may of 2013 as i was trying to get a good recording of the wonderful wood thrush recorded. You can still faintly hear the wood thrush in the background, but the nice surprise on this recording is the very clear, bubbling, trilling call of a proud little chipping sparrow. This recording was carefully made using my homemade parabolic reflector microphone. (*using my trusty rode ntg-2), and going into my handy zoom h4n recorder. I wanted to get as accurate a recording as possible so i bumped up the bit rate to 96 kpbs. I know it makes for a larger file, but i think it is worth it.

This is a short wavefile of really bad drums and a crying baby. To be used properly, it needs to be turned way up. This sound has a story behind it - i made this up for one purpose, and one purpose only - to temporarily blast my long-term loud neighbors into realizing that 'they' are now the victims. They "were" relentless at playing loud music continuously, and it was a hot humid day,no air-con, and i had a lot of wine. That's all it took - so i blasted them(at an amazing close range)with 200+ watts of drums'n'babies, just long enough for them to figure out that this just might continue, and that it isn't a nice sound. Bottom line - the technique was highly effective.

A nice ambient recording made on sunday morning may 5th 2013 around 6:30 in the morning in the shawnee national forest in deep southern illinois. I had originally wanted to get good, clear recordings of the tremendous numbers of warblers that are here, but a good, soaking steady light rain decided to stick around. I though, what the heck, that is a part of our natural world also, so let's get it all "on tape". . . . Hope you enjoy this. To keep as much water off of my h4n as possible, i put one of my big, furry, knitted insulated sock-cap over the recorder, that at least kept my recorder from swimming in water.

Sometimes i regret being so stubborn, only using analog modules in my modular. How easy it should have been creating cool rhythms for the drums with a digitalclock generator or having a nice wave table oscillator etc. . . . Today, i admit, i once again was looking at a digital clockgenerator. How would care!?same sequence as in electronic minute no 105, but slower. And i have added someeasy modular analog. . . . A soft and subtle, unedited sound recording from my studio in leeds. On the top floor of my terraced house, i have a large window that opens out onto a quiet street in north leeds. A school is nearby, so there are some elements of children screaming, but overall you get a nice wash of bird song, quiet car sounds and mild wind. This recording would be excellent for atmospheric sound for film, tv or whatever else. I recording made near some woods of the wind ebbing and flowing on an unusually mild day in late november of 2013. What i find unique about this recording is a lone cricket calling out at various times of this recording. . . Makes for a nice, almost melancholy feeling. It is almost like the cricket is not quite ready to hide away for the winter and is taking advantage of a rare 70-degree november day to call out as if to say "hey, i'm still here, waiting. . . In the grass. ". With headphones on, works wonders in clearing your head. . . Recording made at 6:30 at night with my handy / zoom h4 n recorder using the internal microphones, and of course using a very very stout wind screen. Enjoy.

This was all recorded in enumclaw, wa on july 4th, 2013. I used a yamaha pocketrak recorder throughout the day and into evening when the fireworks started. There's an old piano outside the music store and i just caught the end of a young guy playing some nice music. I then just walked down the street recording the sounds. You can hear me talking to a guy who's working for a local politician. The b-25 mitchell bomber flyover was totally unexpected and i was lucky to have had the recorder going. My small dog was running around outside and got pretty hot. When i brought her in, she began lapping up water at a fast pace. She's also a little sniffly so it got some nice sniffle noises in there too. I feel like this could work well for plenty of different character shots, from a monster, to a comedy-type shot of someone eating something like noodles, to a dog drinking water in an animation. I've benefited from freesound in the past so i wanted to give something back. I created this audio sample of the black speech of mordor (a section of the ring poem), as part of a cinematic orchestral lord of the rings piece to add flavour to it and wondered if others might find a use for it in their own projects. The sample does have added reverb but to my ears this is not excessive. The phrase is:-. Ash nazg durbatulûk,ash nazg gimbatul,ash nazg thrakatulûkagh burzum-ishi krimpatul. This translates to:-. One ring to to rule them allone ring to find themone ring to bring them alland in the darkness bind them. No attribution required but it would be nice to know if anybody uses it. ;-).

On an even night of april 2018, in a huge temple in bangkok -none of the famous ones-, i went to crash funerals -i truly recommend do this; people is very nice and the spectacle it's just amazing, you have singing, acrobatics, free food. . . This recording came from a taoist funeral -that night they have also some others in that temple -i need to find out which one, but i think it's next to sam sen subway station-, many, buddhist funerals. Just now, i realized the singing it's in mandarin. Over the funeral chatting, you heard the singer voice and the instrument, timbals, erhu. A very oriental ambiance. Not edited. Recorded with my old, and now quite cranky, zoom ii recorder.

Created with a doepfer a-100 modular synthesizer sequenced by a korg sq-1 processed by a zoom multistomp ms-70cdr guitar multi-fx pedal, using the particle and hd reverb. Audio source is a self-resonating, modulated doepfer a-108 vcf8. The reverbs ran in series. The manual states that the particle reverb is based on the line6 m9 particle verb. After searching the vastness of the interweb for some 6 inch zilbel samples with no luck, i finally decided to record my own bell. Theres 3 versions of 4 single samples each, 4 chokes, 4 medium and 4 hard hits. I know a lot of you out there have been searching for some samples of one of these bells for a long time so here ya go guys, totally free, full to use for whatever you want, no credit needed to be given to me. These sound amazing in a mix and really add a lot of life to your drum tracks, they dont sound over compressed (theyre dry recordings) and they dont over power everything else, nice crisp and clear. We went to strasbourg to follow an invitation by an photographer to his vernissage! to bad that we got stucked into the traffic jam and arrived while the gallery was already closed! that was really a bummer because the drive took us four hours!lucky that i had my zoom h6 because strasbourg is by far an amazing city with so many street life. It is insane how many little streets with these tiny cafes and all the people around! it is like a magnet and you got sucked in. The french people know how to live life and i recorded in 3 parts of the city to give you a nice ambience feeling. This is part 1.

Privatedareno2 - 3patches - 3min. A challenge kindly started by alienxxx \(^_^)/. Patch 1: the patch that was… a patch i did yesterday. Got that one for free, so to speak. Patch 2: inspired by distant airplanes. Had this in mind. Now i patched up my idea. The wind (or what you decide to call it) is controlled by alm pip slope. New module – for me. Used an external effect, the zoom ms-70cdr. Patch 3: read about feedback. I decided to do a feedback patch. First i made one using oscillators, but i did not manage to do something nice. So i used filters. The first filters feedback is generating triggers. Oh, yes, and i used my sampler (soundmachines ul1uloop). So three patches. I merged/mixed them together in audacity. All sound unedited. Just normalized and i have applied fade in/out – and mixed them together - as written.

This is a first in a series of loops made with the x-base09 drum-kit i have posted long time ago, i thought this would be a nice addition. Loops will be mainly processed in live9. Information will be available depending on the loop. This loop is a dry unprocessed loop, all i did was reduce the release on one of the kicks, as it has a long delay, and i didn't want that in the background of this loop, some midi velocity on the hi-hats, and i added a groove (chachacha) with only 10% quantization. This first loop was mainly to show the original sound of the individual hits as they where recorded, playing as a loop to give you a better picture of the sounds and therefore i added it to the x-base kit instead of x-base loop pack.

This one was also made in sylenth1, its a pretty dirty gritty sounding patch i made. Has a bit of the 'decimate' bitcrusher (sylenths', and i also added a bass amp in logic to fatten the sound up, its played in g. I always name my loops with the first letter on its key hence the name ghost chord=) , and is a loop made at 128bpm. Feel free to use it in any of your works + more importantly let me know why you like it?i take quite some time into adding details in my sounds. I find making a loop can be very good for tuning your ears & production techniques, because like an artist if your painting something small u add a lot more detail. No need to credit me but its always nice(the more u do this the more u get i say=)enjoy. Dw.

An enjoyable trip back to my childhood. . . Way before cell phones and the internet. Summers were enjoyed walking on the gravel alleys looking at the beautiful, mature trees in my own little corner of the neighborhood. Does this return you to your childhood?. A nice capture of those beautiful chimney swifts twittering above -- a true signature of summer -- occurs at 38 seconds in, then again at 2:24. The typical hum of central air conditioning units is ever present throughout. From 2:11 to 2:27 i stop and you can hear the hum of these units getting louder. At 2:44 a dog barks in the distance. Then, at 4:16 i leave the gravel alley and start walking on the grass, the, at 5:06, up the big, concrete front steps. Recorded at 7:45pm on the evening of wednesday june 12th 2019. It's me jamming a bit using my epiphone's explorer (tuned to drop-d). Recorded with a zoom h2 via mic-in and a jack cable. Unprocessed an undedited recording. I tried out some licks and chords. I'm not a good guitarist. Nevetheless, this might be a nice recording if you're making an animation about learning musician, or a game with a band member rehearsing alone in a room, or if you want to just chill to my little jam session. This should be mono, but i calculated the difference between left and right channel and it is not zero. So i uploaded it as a stereo file. Could use some denoising. There is some silence at the beginning so you can do that if you need.

Another recording of rain and thunder, but in some ways a better one. This one is a surprisingly big crack and rumble preceded and followed by a nice sounding rain. I made this by positioning a stereo-matched pair of akg c451b condenser mics in an exaggerated x-y configuration (a wider stereo field) and aiming them out of my open window. The mics went into a universal audio 2-610 preamp, an apogee duet 2, and then ableton at 48khz and 24 bits. I believe i had the mics set flat, and there was no post processing (though i was mightily tempted to upload the much-better-sounding eqed and compressed files) so that you can fine tune it to suit your needs. You'll notice that the loudest parts of the thunder boom clipped the input, but, due to the pleasant and forgiving nature of vacuum tubes, the clipping sounds more compressed than distorted. Feel free to use this sound in any commercial or artistic work! you do not need to credit me.

This recording is inspired by alienxxx http://freesound. Org/people/alienxxx/sounds/345510/made a little patch on my modular, still missing its (main) oscillators. I let the patch sound thru a pair of cheap computer speakers that i use as monitors. In an adjacent room, close to an open window, i put my phone and record. This is the unedited outcome. The recording was made 09:00 (16-05-11). Unfortunately nothing happened outside the window. Even the birds was quiet. I think there is a hint of feedback in the sound? first i planned to record with an old tape recorder, but i couldn’t find it. . . I think this recording should be listened to with low volume. May by it was a mistake to amplify the sound in audacity? but i think there is a nice room ambiance to the recording. Ideas for next time. Use guitar amp. Find old tape recorder. Don’t put recording device to close to window.

My first upload! this sound i made using the zmors synth on my ipad air2 - i used audiobus which is a great routing software allowing many of a lot of awesome sounding synths that are now on ipad and can be played professionally via a usb keyboard controller (very handy for gigging) okay this is getting too wordy. . . I used audiobus overall with zmors in the first slot being routed through the wonderful aufx eq app in the center (effects) slot then ran the most useful of all ---> audioshare app in the 3rd or output slot to record it all. . . Keep in mind that the number of devices you can run in these three slots is virtually limitless - as much as your device can handle so you can get really nuts with several synths, a drum machine, etc all routing to the middle (fx) stop in the chain and picking up a fat 3 or 4 nice sounding effects devices then on to output to audioshare or you can now use just audioshare as host and run zmors in it directly (and probably more smoothly). I chose zmors because on a couple of other ipads (ipad mini, ipad 2 especially, and ipad air a little bit) i was noticing that it was a resource hog and was not playing correctly or there was a huge lag in the latency so with the new(er) ipad air 2 i wanted to hear the zmors synth and it really is an underappreciated majestic sounding beast if you ask me. I am going to experiment further with it as the unique architecture and just the way it sounds is totally different from any other synth i've yet to hear on ipad or in general. It kind of reminds me of a fatter, more modern. Sequential circuits 6 track. Which i've had a couple of and have a thick layered sound - kind of like a really nice turkey sandwich with a good portion of swiss cheese then you notice that there's still some roast beef left and put a good amount of that between bread as well. Both the temperature and humidity were nicely lower than usual and this soundscape was recorded featuring the beautiful northern breezes and a few of the birds that still live here. Since this ambience was recorded during the work-week, there are hardly any man-made internal combustion engine noises. Just the wind lifting and swirling through the tired forest and the blue jays, crows and insects. Recording made at 2:30pm on september 13 2022. Equipment used: recorder-sound devices 702microphones- left channel- sennheiser mkh 416right channel - sennheiser mkh 8070. The right channel, the very low-noise direction shotgun microphone, was pointed just about straight up at the leaves and branches of a huge cottonwood tree whose dry leaves were putting on a show. A nice wet-themed ambiance of early spring in a small midwestern town in the us. The spring peepers dominate, always in the background. The american toads trill off and on (:38----1:04, 2:09-----2:31, 5:50----6:07, 6:25----6:40)there is also a distant dog bark, with echo at 3:31. Distant car horn at 3:57. Since this was recorded on a busy weeknight at 7pm, a lot of distant car doors and people picking up and dropping off kiddos for basketball practice, choir practice and other ancient extracurricular activities. There is a particularly good door open and slam and muted conversations at 6:43 to 6:56 and again at 7:17stereo recording made on thursday night march 29th, 2018 using a sound devices 702 and an audiotechnica bp4025 stereo microphone. The original was recorded at the very high sample rate of 196hz. Enjoy a town winding down and internalizing on a cold, drippy wet night in either very late winter, or very early spring.

The "concrete cello" pack is a collection of scraping, scratchy and droning improvisations on the cello focussing on the creation of sounds to be used as base materials for future compositions. They were originally recorded in 2019 to be used in as sound design elements for the documentary "hotel regina" by director matthias berger for which i composed the music. August, 2nd 2013. About eight and a half minutes worth of summer evening ambience, with crickets and cicadas leading the evening songs. Nothing too eventful, but a nice finish to a great day. Recorded at 48khz, 24 bit. Stereo pair of behringer c-2s (cardioid). The mics have an on-board 3-position switch, with labels "flat," "low-cut," and "-10db. " the switch was set in the -10db position (whoops!). It is unclear if this position also activates the low-cut. Additionally, a 24db/oct low-cut applied in pro-tools at 80hz to clean up a slight wind ruffle. Since it was late at night, and the rest of the family was in bed, i opened my window and placed the microphones (almost) right up against the screen. The a/c unit you can hear is directly below the window. Around the 4:45 mark, the digital thermostat hit a programming mark and kicked the air conditioner back on. Roughly one minute later, i adjusted the thermostat to turn the unit back off. Location: suburbs of atlanta. Free to use whenever and wherever! i'd be interested to hear/see where you use it!.

Ok, i don't know how many of you might be interested in this, but i figure there's no harm in posting it. I'm working on some original songs. Laptop-based, electronic songs, with many orchestral parts, including violin, viola, cello, and string bass. Presonus studio one has some very nice vst string instruments, and i have some really great ones for kontakt. But they all are missing one thing, and i couldn't find the (admittedly esoteric) sound that i'm looking for anywhere on the internet. Being a viola player myself, i recorded myself playing these very particular incidental sounds. Let me explain-. There's this 'grabby' sound that a well-rosined bow makes just is it is first being drawn across the string. Listen carefully to any of the pros and you'll hear it. In your laptop sequences, if used subtly, right at the point where the first note of a phrase is initiated, this sound can give the string part a marked sense of realism*. This, combined with vibrato, reverb and a nice warm/tube/tape saturation setting, nobody will be able to tell the difference between your vst and the real thing. About the audio-i tried to keep them as pitchless as possible, thus not limiting their utility. I recorded two sets of all four open strings (c, g, d, a), first close mic'ed, and once from a few feet away, in stereo. Or to say it another way, the sounds are as follows-1. Open c close2. It's totally overkill for me to record all the different versions, but i suppose somebody out there might find one more appropriate than another for their purposes. As of this recording, i am the official town troubadour of manchester, ct, usa. I am just putting the finishing touches on an album collecting the various songs i have written for the town in this role. One of the songs mentions the church bells that ring out every day in at the top of the hill in town, so i thought it would be nice to open that song with a field recording of the bells. Every day at noon, center congregational church in manchester, ct, usa plays a full 10 minutes of music. This is a recording of the full 10 minutes as played on december 4th, 2022 - recorded with a zoom h1n, fades added in audacity. It was quite windy and despite my wind sock, there is the occasional audible gust. I was set away from direct traffic sound, but there is ambient traffic sound. There was also a church maintenance truck that slowly drove past me midway through the recording (probably curious at the strange person with the tripod recorder and headphones). I have not attempted to identify the songs in this recording. But if you recognize any, please let me know!.

I combined an ambient bar crowd recording that i found here with a funky little back beat that i also found on this site and made a great cubicle noise blocker / filter. I use this at work with headphones on when i'm trying to concentrate and drown out conversations in the office. Also good for when i work from home and i'm trying to drown out the tv and other distractions. The crowd noise is excellent at diffusing regular office conversation and the little funky back beat keeps the crowd noise from getting boring. This works really well even at fairly low volume i. E. This thing has a solid-state drive of 120gb that is used to boot up windows 7 pro, and a wd green 500gb hard drive that is used to store nearly all my games, and tons of other large (compilations of) files including my five nights fangame files. This is a collection of "small room reverb" impulse responses that i sampled in a new england home known as butternut lodge, built and owned by actress bette davis back in 1940. It consists of all wooden rooms with many non-parallel surfaces, rugs and furniture and includes 3 round-shaped "silo" rooms! these rooms sound clean and do not have the irritating "ping" of many rectangular rooms. Although these round shapes (and some of the other very small rooms) could potentially wreak havoc with phase at specific frequencies when summed to mono, i recorded this using the mid/side mic technique; therefore, the "side" channels fully cancel out, leaving a clean monaural reverb signal. Each room varies in tone and brightness, so i've found that selecting/tuning the reverb send works well if approached like an eq. Increase the effect send until the instrument "feels" right (then perhaps back off slightly). A close-miked acoustic guitar, for instance, will take on a nice brightness and 3-d quality; not particularly reverberant, just big.
