In 's-hertogenbosch in holland we have carnival every year. This is a recording in the centre of the city. A recording of several 'dweilorkesten' that is a band that plays musing in the street. 'literal' translation is 'mop band or mopping band'. The go trough the streets like someone mopping the floor. This recording at the market-place is made with hundreds of people around. The ambience here is totally different from other places in the town and the world. It complete different than the south american carnival. Recorded: march 7th 2011, markt, 's-hertogenbosch, holland. This was recorded in the centre of oxford, near the junction between broad street and turl street, on 23rd february 2013. I was facing west along broad street with turl street, and the pavement, to my left. There are many different sounds on this recording including bikes being parked (i was standing near a bike rack) and ridden, cars lurking for a parking space, dropping people off and turning round (broad street has a car park in the middle of it), plenty of different people walking past and talking, and a big issue seller. There is the occasional bit of wind noise, but not as much as i'd feared (luckily the wind was behind me). Recorded with a marantz pmd661 with built-in microphones.

Standing outside of the catedrala sfânta treime, an orthodox church in sibiu/romania. Inside, mass is being held and singing and chanting can be heard over the ambient street noises, some children are laughing and chatting in a small park next to the church. Afternoon traffic ambiance hum on the street - field-recording taken from the yard/balcony in front of my door, in the distance you can hear the warning buzz from the tram and later its starting off from the tram stop nearby. Tram continues then to go from left to right channel, accompanied by some random people noise from the yard. Brno city center, czech republic, central europe. You will hear the first construction site that i walked by that has the circular sawing. Then i walked past it and sat down for the majority of the recording where you can hear the second construction site that is about a short-block away and that's where all the hammering is coming from. Chefchaouen, a small town perched in morocco's rif mountains, is made up of cobbled, windy streets. These lanes are too narrow to accommodate cars, which results in very unique soundscapes. While you might hear children during the day, at night you hear men standing around, selling their wares, and chatting. This recording is from february, 2020, using a tascam dr-05x.
