A heavy unit called a tamper went past, tamping down the ballast (stones) that go under the tracks. I created this sound using lmms ( linux multimedia studio ) using various ladspa effects and layered a few zynaddsubfx synths, with some automation to tame the fall off's by automating the volume faders. Enjoy :).
