I tied an olympus ls-5 recorder high in a tree and left it for half an hour. There are still quite a few people around and you can hear their voices alongside the birds which are getting ready to roost.

A peaceful "scene" of winter birds foraging in a large thicket of wild blackberry brambles. Large river rapids running strongly after winter rain. Recorded approximately fifty feet above water level. The river flows and turns through a narrow, high, partly exposed bedrock canyon which likely amplifies the sound of the rapids. The first nine seconds are unedited. The last two seconds have a fade out applied. In summer you can walk where the centre channel is in winter, so this is a lot of water moving swiftly down the cowichan river to the salish sea.
